Brian, One very important thing to know regarding cash. If you need gasoline in Coral Bay the station takes cash. No Visa/MC no checks.
You'll have a blast!

I'd plan on $50-70 / person at Asolare, Stone Terrace etc. exclding alcohol. This should get you appetizer, main course and desert. If you splurge on lobster, may drive this up.

And to add on to what JT said re Domino's in Coral Bay - no $100 bills :)

Wow, all these insider tips that I have to learn about! Thanks everyone for your help, I feel like I know my way around the island already even though I've never been there. I'll definitely leave a trip report after we return.

One more question, which is more broad than the others I've asked. Just curious how all of you STJ regulars would recommend a couple of first timers spend their first day? There seems like there is so much to do/see (well, really so many places to just kick back and relax) I'd love to know how you'd recommend starting off our STJ experience.

Thanks again,
Brian

A perfect first day for a first-timer would be up early and to the beach by about 8 AM. If you go early enough, I'd say Trunk Bay. Early avoids the crowds and cruise shippers. Then, by the time the beach starts filling up, you can shower off at the facilities there and head into Cruz Bay for lunch and shopping. Grab some ribs & chicken at Uncle Joe's and take it back to the villa for dinner on the deck. How's that for a first day? :D

I agree with CA Girl... but since its a honeymoon, they may want to sleep (ahem) in :-0. If you get a later start, my suggestion is to swing by Deli Grotto, pick up lunch, throw it in the cooler with a few libations and head to Hawksnest. Very close to town. If you walk all the way down to the right side of the beach you can score good shade. From there you can swim around the point to Gibney. Hawksnest has some good snorkeling right off the beach in the center and to the right. Some recent reports here have mentioned good snorkeling at Gibney also.

You can get a look at Gibney Cottage for your next trip down !

PS
hawksnest has no running water so u may want to throw a gallon in the car to wash off your feet. It does have porta potties which are not bad at all.

Since you'll be on your honeymoon, you have to make it over to Honeymoon beach. You can park at Caneel Bay and it's an easy walk. It's one of my favorite beaches on STJ.
