painkiller again, again
painkiller again, again
I have been looking for a very long time after coconut cream, so I could make a painkiller. Finally I have succeeded to find it in a small Asian shop. But, but, now I have a new problem. We have bought light Cruzian Rum on the islands, I wasn't aware that it was Pusser's Rum you have to use. And I cannot find Pusser's Rum or Coconut Rum in our town. We have a Captain Morgan Jamaica Rum, 40% and a Stroh Rum 80% and can also buy other type of rum. Any proposals about what to do? Just give up or what? How many % is Pusser's rum??

Easy....move! Just kidding. Go ahead and experiment/substitute. I actually prefer the Cruzan estate dark rum (or the light Cruzan rum you bought on island) to the Pussers. Since you have the coconut cream, you won't need coconut rum. Following is the Beach Bar's painkiller receipe:
1.5 oz Dark Rum
1.5 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Coco Lopez
Fresh Nutmeg
(regular can be substituted)
Slice of Orange &/or Pineapple & Maraschino Cherry for garnish
Mix juices together in a cocktail shaker. Pour juices into a glass filled with ice. Add rum then top with a grating of fresh nutmeg (you can be pretty liberal with the nutmeg; see how much you like but it is a definite ingredient not just a garnish). Finish with a swizzle stick or straw. Painkillers are best made with Pusser's Rum and fresh nutmeg, both of which you can get here in St John. Our neighbors: St John Spice have fresh nutmeg and graters for sale.
Painkillers are, as directed here, not shaken.
Cheers, Ali~

Hi again!
Thank you for your help. Glad to hear that it's worth to try both our light Cruzan Rum and the Jamaica Rum.
We don't have this Coco Lopez stuff (or Mango Rum), but I have seen recipe's without that, so I hope I will succeed nevertheless. But just now in Denmark
the autumn has begun, and perhaps it's not the right time to serve a painkiller. I'm not sure that the taste will be the same compared with the one you have had in hot weather, and when you really need to kill the pain! But I'm soon going to have a girl party, where I intend to serve the painkiller.

My first home-made painkiller. Made it of the light Cruzan Rum, and my girlfriends enjoyed it.
Sorry for the bad quality of the pic, forgot to focus(have tasted the painkiller before taking the photo!).
