off season notes

Post by Eric on St John »

*Compass Rose at Pastory Gardens Mini Golf will not be closing and will be open at 3 pm daily. They now have personal size pizza and specials each night. Most notably Tuesday Carnivore Night aka Prime Rib Night and Wed. usually features a great Roast Beef Au Jus sandwich. Kids golf free on Monday and ladies free on Wen.

*got scooped on the Canvas Factory closing

*Tage is closed but you can still get a great brunch at Sun Dog Cafe, supposedly 9 am - 2pm but they have been so busy they often start to run out of some of the breakfast items around noon, regular menu starts at 11 am.

*Mojo Cafe wedged between High Tide and the new building where dockside used to be turns out to be a pretty tasty spot to grab some food cheap (imagine!) for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Don't think they are closing.

*Happy Fish does have other things besides Sushi & its usually FREEZING in there! I know some of you will like that more than the food.

*Starfish is hiring for its new gourmet grocery so that's getting closer. Coincidently? Dolphin Market just did some re-arranging with new produce display & is gutting its rear deli area.

*the bakery where Ronnie's Pizza used to be next to Kilroy's Dry Cleaner (used to be Elite) is closing at 1 pm for now. Its practically next door to us & its SOOOO CHEAP! I almost feel guilty & that I should tell them they can bump prices a bit.

Where will the "new" Starfish Gourmet Market be? Are they expanding their currant site or will they have another location? I can't wait - We'll be there next July and look forward to more gourmet meals at the villa :D

Pastory Garden's Pizza is pretty good, although pricey. If I recall it was $18 for a pepperoni pie, but its more thnn enough for two!

Hey Snorkelqueen,

Starfish Gourmet Market is opposite the large Starfish Market where Chelsea Drug Store used to be before it moved upstairs.

I think they have adjusted the pizza pricing somewhat. I'll take a closer look next time I'm up there. I think its lower now and was higher when they first started & only had it wen-sat and were pushing the high-end/weird toppings like crab.

Last week Mojo Cafe was highly recommended for good basic breakfast by Zozos bartender Carlos but alas we didnt make it there. Blink and you'll miss it next to High Tide.
He concurred with us that breakfast at Chilly Billys has seen better days and he was happy there was another place in addition to JJs.

Hey Pia!
Thank you for the information on Starfish. We are staying at a new villa next year (Gifft Hill)and are looking forward to lots of great cocktails and meals watching the sunset. Starfish Gournet is coming along just in time - Yummy
And thanks again for the turtle information, swimming with the turtles was the high-light of our trip last year and may well be one of the high-lights of my life.

I'll be looking forward to The Starfish Gourmet Market. Do I remember correctly from our June trip that Mojo Cafe had primarily East Indian food? We may have to try it next time.

How is Tage faring now that Ted is no longer their chef? It was #1 on my list to try last time until I read luke warm reviews after he left.

With some of the talk being about breakfast, I have to add my two cents. We love Paradise Cafe which is very close to Mojo. If you don't want a full breakfast, but more like a quick snack I recommend their $4.00 breakfast sandwich. Hot, fresh, yummy and the price is right. Maybe we just got lucky our visits. Their lunch menu is practically non-existant. My husband liked the smoothies which he frequently got on our walk back to Gallow's Point from town.
Going "home" again October 26th!

I hate to hear that Chilly Billy's isn't up to par in some opinions... it was my favorite morning routine before heading to the beach. Perhaps it is just a difference in what people choose? Give me the 1, 2, 3 (I think that's what it's called) at Chilly Billy's anyday! It just had the funkiest little vibe.
