Caribbean Party Playlists

Post by DiverDrew »

Getting ready for my annual Caribbean/Cajun themed party called "Voodoo" up here in Cincinnati. Last year it was crazy with 90 people and a Captain Jack Sparrow impersonater.

Just finished the music; an upbeat and a mellow mix. Posted them to iTunes for anyone interested in taking a listen. They're listed under Drew's USVI Upbeat and Drew's USVI Mellow. Play lists are below. Mostly reggae, cali-reggae, island country, classic rock, and some acoustic folk.

Great playlist Diver Drew - gonna go check it out! Definitely gonna pull songs off of it.

Stephen Marley is great!

You should check out Eric Lindell's Change in the Weather - from what you had on there, I think you might really like his stuff. It's not reggae though.

To look at other people's play lists on iTunes, from any of the music screens look for iMix on one of the menus. From there you will be able to search for play lists people have put together, by the name of their mix or by lists that include a particular song or artist. If you key in USVI in the search field and change the pull down sort key to "iMix Name", you'll find these two lists.

Hey Nothintolose,

Great tip on Eric Lindell. I always have room for good blues music, especially if it's out of the Big Easy. I'll throw a few of his tracks on the mix for the party along with some Rockin' Dopsie. Should go well with the jambalaya, po'boys, and Abita we'll be serving.

We're looking into another trip to the Crescent City in November. Nola and St. John are our two favorite destinations. My wife and I enjoy and care for your city so much that we named our 7-week old daughter Annaliis Nola.

Jeez Drew - that's beautiful that you named your daughter that! Congrats on the new wee one!

I didn't know you could get Abita up there! What's your favorite flavor? Mine is wheat - hoarding it right now because it's seasonal and almost over. I saw they have a Pecan Ale for the next season - kinda scared of that one - something about Pecans and beer  My other favorite year round flavor is Amber.

I am glad Destiny asked that question cuz I woke up this morning wanting to go to your playlist to add those songs to my iPod but wasn't quite sure how...now I know.

You'll have to let me know when you come down in November!

p.s. Stephen Marley was my favorite performance at Jazz Fest this year! He was AWESOME!!! Eric Lindell and Trombone Shorty were my other two favs.

In iTunes when you're looking at the playlist you can buy songs individually by clicking on the "add song" button. To buy the whole list, up at the top of the screen by the name of the iMix, is a button that says "add all songs".

Stephen Marley is the best of the Marley boys, but they're all good. I saw him in concert last year on the Roots, Rock, Reggae tour. I've been to New Orleans over a dozen times, but I've never been down for Jazz Fest or Mardi Gras. Something about crowds I guess...

We can get Abita in 4-5 flavors in bottles, but we can get Abita Amber in kegs, which is my favorite. I emailed Abita asking where I could buy a tap handle and they kindly mailed me one at no charge. Very nice folks. I've been missing Dixie and Blackened Voodoo.

Strangely now, I'm thirsty.

Drew - I can send ya' some Dixie if ya' want. Also, I was looking for Blackened Voodoo a couple of weeks ago and didn't see any. Gonna see what's up with that.

I am trying to decide whether to just buy your whole playlist or just the songs I don't have - there's alot on there that I never heard of but really liked!

p.s. the crowds at Jazz Fest are different than most crowds cuz believe me, I HATE crowds.

Thanks Diver Drew! I am fighting with itunes right now but I know we can resolve our differences. Once I do, I am downloading your playlists! :D
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
