Can we make an 8:35 AM flight?

Post by Teddy Salad »

We are going to St. John next January and we are trying to decide on our return trip to Denver. It looks like our best option for the first leg has us leaving STT on the AA 8:35 AM flight to Miami.

Can we make it OK if we take the 6AM ferry to Red Hook? This will be on a Saturday.

Thanks!

I've done it but I probably wouldn't do it again - it's far busier in STT than before. I'd only do it if I took a private ferry and private taxi and left at 5:30 am.

I remember Glenn Speers (who designed Mongoose Junction among others) and he got stuck in traffic from Red Hook and missed his flight.
If you use Xislandgirls taxi person that may work.
Then you could take the 6A ferry and she could have only you all as passengers and the taxi should be able to make it to the airport by 7A.
Don't they ask for 2 hours and may not board you if they do not have that?
I saw a post about that somewhere.

We have often thought about taking that early morning flight out and wondered how to do it. We were thinking the easiest bet would be to overnight in St. Thomas the eve prior.

Please tell me that the airport chaos is better at that early hour. It has GOT to be better than that horrid afternoon mess!!! We have arrived three hours before our departure time and barely made the flight.

I would love to hear from some of you that fly out on that 8:30 a.m. flight, Pia??

I think you can make it esp. if you do online check-in 24 hours prior.

Thanks for the feedback all. I forgot to mention that we will have luggage to check, so that will add to the check in time. We are thinking about staying in St. Thomas the night before we leave. Another possibility is to take the afternoon nonstop to Miami and overnight there, as we would get to Miami too late to make a connection to Denver that night.

Also, there is a 9:31 AM flight to San Juan that would let us connect through Dallas and get us home that evening. We want to avoid SJU if we can, but might not be able to.

Anyone else with advice, please feel free to dispense it. Thanks!

If it was me, I'd take the 9:30 through San Juan. Less stress all around. San Juan isn't that horrible.

You can make it for the 8:30am flight but recently the airport is a ZOO :( The best thing to do is use a porter and you will be through in approx 15 mins. Last time I tipped $10.00 for 1 bag - best $$ I spent as I was in the terminal having a "made to order" omelet within 15 mis of arrival :) and the people in the line ahead of me made who did not use the porter it through 1 hour 15 mins later with 10 mins to spare :(
