Advice: Getting in to STT at 9pm and Getting to STJ

Post by flip-flop »

I remember this coming up a while back about arriving later and still making it over to St. John. We are adding a person on to our trip and in efforts to get the cheapest fare are looking at a flight that arrives at 9pm.

My Concerns:

1) Will they be able to make it over to STJ that first night and

2) Is the Red Hook Ferry somewhere you don't want to be at 10pm or so at night?

I think in just asking the questions I have convinced myself I don't want a singleton coming in at 9pm but maybe I am just paranoid.

You can make it no problem.
Just arrange to have a taxi waiting, my friend Rachel is always available and I bet she will wait with the person if you are concerened about safety, but I have never had a problem at night in Red Hook.

We got to Red Hook last year at around 12:30am, and still had a few ferries to spare. I think a larger concern would be a delay on departure, or delay of a connecting flight. Add a few hours here or there and someone may not get in until really late.

I have a cousin who ALWAYS comes at a different time/day then the rest of us. She travels alone and is generally on the 10 or 11 pm ferry. She has never had a problem; in fact, she usually meets some nice people on the way over. :D

The last ferry is at midnight from Red Hook and I have taken it many times. I feel better now the "new" waiting area is open as it's larger and I always just walk down to where they sell tickets - they don't sell them at the booth at night they sell them at the gate - and the "ticket seller" and security person is always there so I just wait there (if this makes sense)

You will have no problem being able to get to STJ that night.

Thanks all. Good to know and I'll give her all the options and we'll go from there. FYI those < $300 AA fares are inching up if anyone is on the fence. What was $280 yesterday is $320 or so today.
