More info on my Travel Insurance

Post by FlaGeorge »

OK, I finally got my travel insurance figured out. As I mentioned before, we bought travel insurance through http://www.travelinsurancecenter.com . They represent 18 plus different plans by different companies. The insurance we got was provided through HTH Worldwide and the plan was HTH TripProtector. travelinsurancecenter.com was great to work through and answered all my questions and concerns. As it turns out HTH Worldwide uses CSA Travel Claims to administer their claims.

I have to tell you that both travelinsurancecenter.com and CSA Travel Claims were great to work with. The whole process of finding insurance and then having to file a claim was painless. I hope this helps.

I do need to purchase insurance soon, to cover us in the event that a pre-existing condition forces us to cancel our trip. Should I just call them and tell them my situation and they will advise? I'm so accustomed to doing things over the internet now, but it seems it would be best to talk to a real person.

Maryanne - I was in the exact boat that you're in. I called them up, explained my situation and they were very helpful in finding me a plan that worked for me and was affordable. The folks are great and I never felt rushed or pressured with them.

“Call now – Operators are standing by.”. Just kidding of course about that. Let me know if I can be of more help.

Well, I just went thru travel insurance hell so I will chime in here. I CANNOT find travel insurance that is considered "primary" and covers pre-existing conditions. The reason is I placed the deposit for the trip 23 days ago. IF you want/need this coverage buy it the day your deposit check clears the bank.
I DID buy a policy with CSA, freestyle Luxe which says on the web site covers pre-existing conditions. This is still "secondary" coverage. When I got the policy last Saturday and reviewed it there was a clause stating the policy did not cover pre-existing conditions, so I cancelled the policy. Back to square one. After ALOT of research I realized I was SOL. I did buy a policy from HTH and it does cover pre-existing conditions BUT it is "secondary" insurance.
So, my advice is if you want the best travel insurance policy DO NOT WAIT. BUY IT when your deposit hits the bank! A lesson I will remember..

What is the difference b/w 'primary' and 'secondary?'

I called CSA last winter when I was about to put a deposit down on my villa and they told me I needed to buy it at the time that I made the final payment (in November).

This is confusing to me because it sounds like you are talking about medical coverage. Is that was you mean by secondary (your health plan would be prime?). My experience has been that policies will waive pre existing conditions if you buy within a certain # of days after your deposit. Meaning if you can't travel because of that condition you can still travel.

Gizzmo, I am sorry you are having so much trouble. Try www.insuremytrip.com On this site you can compare many different policies. And it will show which one pays Primary versus Secondary.

It will also show when you need to buy it in order for it to cover pre-existing conditions.

This is the difference between primary and secondary insurance (health insurance). You HAVE to have a primary health insurance policy from your home country that will pay primary expensies. In my case I live in Florida and my health care is Humana. They will pay 60% out of network REIMBURSEMENT after I flip the bill for whatever in the USVI's. Your secondary insurance will pay ONLY after you primary has paid their % and that can take A LONG TIME..... If you are going to insure your trip get it within 14 days of your deposit.
