Question for Ruth &/or all of you wonderful cooks

Post by MarciaMarciaMarcia »

Great find! My son was poking around in the spice cabinet and pulled out a bottle of Trinidad Charlie's West Indian Pumpkin Pepper Sauce. I had forgotten that I bought it at St. John Spice Co. on our last visit. (Our stash of the Cruz Bay grill rub ran out long ago. I'll triple the amount we bring home next time.) Meanwhile I have this wonderful bottle of Pumpkin Pepper Sauce and I would love some suggestions! I'm thinking of marrying it with some olive oil and marinating some chicken breasts for the grill.

I know from reading with gusto the food porn thread that there are far, far better cooks than I in here. I would sure love and appreciate some ideas of what to do with this sauce for dinner tonight.

hmmmm I ran out of that a while ago but I know for one I put it in veggie chili and it was great. I'm sure others have better ideas though - not exactly the "chili" season right now ;)

MMM,
It will be delicious with some oil on chicken. That would woek with shrimp as well. Maybe add some roasted mashed garlic. Or just chopped garlic.
Enjoy.

It goes a long way so I will definitely try it in chili....great idea. For tonight, instead of chicken breasts I picked up some fresh shrimp, peeled them and have them sitting in the olive oil and Pumpkin Spice Mixture. I would have gone full strength but I don't think my kids would be able to take the heat. Spicy! It sure is tasty though. The other sauce I loved was the Tangy Ting. I've got to pick up a few of those, too. Off to turn on the grill! Thanks everyone!!

Oh YUM!! Thanks for the suggestions folks. The shrimp was excellent. The kids loved it, too. The sauce is so spicy that it's easy to miss the subtle sweetness that is there. Cutting it with the olive oil was just right (for us) and they grilled up deeelish!

I used the sauce full strength on shrimp one time and it was HOT. It never occured to me to cut it with oil. I have lots of sauces in the fridge to use up. Thanks for the idea.

Ok, I haven't logged in for quite some time... been a lurky-bird though.

I gotta tell you... I LOVE this hot sauce!

It's pretty darn hot though so making a MARINADE out of it is really DARING! Try a little bit on your finger.

I maninly used my TC Pumpkin Pepper Sauce (gone a long time ago) as a condiment. The heat is good but not too mucha dnt eh flavor is so complex- a little curry-ish even.

My favorite place to put it was on couscous or rice. Awesome! You can reeeally appreciate the flavor.

Liked it with eggs as well.

Man, that's quite a "forgot-I-bought-it" find!

Hey thanks ladies! Feels nice to be missed! :P

I haven't logged in for quite some time because this forum is so damned addicting!!

I figured that if I didn't log in than I couldn't easily respond to posts and then I wouldn't want to check the forum as often and I would be a more productive employee. :D

Ya, well, that hasn't worked. I check this darned forum several times a day. And the time I "save" not posting is spent Googling other stuff.

I'm one of those people who is sooooo very easily drawn away from the worky-work in cubicle land. Especially during the summer. Ho-hum. :?

Guess I'll start loggin' in again!! :D
