AS THE ISLAND TURNS - part two
Thurs. Aug 2
Since we arrived last night in the dark, what a beautiful sight to wake up to!

What a great view! We could just stay here all day on the deck, but after coffee, bagels and a smoothie, we packed our gear for Cinnamon Bay. As we were leaving, a huge water truck pulled into the driveway. We were not going anywhere anytime soon! The cistern needed to be filled and it was pretty cool watching the tank fill up right under the living room floor! This took 30 minutes. So while we waited, I took pics of the villa.

It really is a great layout for 2 families, 3 couples or even the 10 of us! Simple, clean and comfortable. We fed the banana quits their sugar while we waited. (thanks for the tip Bongo Boys)

Finally the truck made it's way out of our way and now we are on our way to Cinnamon Bay. After all the crazy night driving, it was a breeze to get down the mountain and over to the North Shore Road. "Welcome to the jungle" with lots of ooh's and ahh's at each overlook...

and OMG at the double switchbacks near Peter Bay. The first time is always the best! We finally made it to Cinnamon by 11 a.m. It was pretty windy on the right side of the beach but found a nice cozy spot under a seagrape tree to the left. Time flew with swimming, sun & fun!

We enjoyed burgers and smoothies at the pavilion up the hill. Who could ask for more?
Pretty soon I think we wore the grandparents out and needed to pack up and go to Starfish Market for a major grocery run. At the store we ran into some of our church friends that we knew would be on island the same time. As we were chatting about getting together sometime during the week with their boys, our cart started filling up all by itself with junk food. Our rug rats were all over the store having a free for all! ARRGH! Put that back! We don't need that! That's full of sugar! "Oh please! Just this once! We are on vacation!" ALRIGHT! LET'S JUST GET OUT OF HERE! Cha-ching!
*Note to self: don't bring the kids to the store, especially in the late afternoon when EVERYONE is shopping for their dinner!
*Other note to self: Open a grocery store on St. John and make a fortune!
After the grocery trip from H%&@, I really wanted to stop by the Beach Bar for the forum gathering to toast Beachluvers on their wedding the next day and wish them well. WELL, I found out very quickly this vacation isn't all about me, but more about making everyone else happy, fed and entertained the whole trip.
So back to the villa for showers (or dip in the pool) and everyone is ready for their first sunset on Gifft Hill.

The grandparents prepared their famous Italian spaghetti with salad and out of this world crunchy sourdough bread from Starfish. (sorry no F.P.)
The wine was flowing that evening! Fat and happy, we enjoyed the hot tub, name that tune and twinkling stars all around! Life is good!
TUNE IN TOMORROW AS THE ISLAND TURNS:
Will the guys be ready for their deep sea fishing trip? Will the girls shop till they drop? Will they see a famous country singer at Woody's (or behind Woody's)? How many empty bottles of wine will be taken to the dumpster?

What a fun report! The view is great from your villa. I'm going to have to try the sugar next time. We've always made sugar water for the birds. We get lots of bananquits, but not as many as in your photo (or the bongo boys' video)
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thanks for all your nice responses!
Hate to burst your bubble but that's the girlfriend on the beach and I'm taking all the pictures! I'm not wearing a bikini anytime soon . . .
Also, the banana quits loved that sugar! If we didn't put it out they would gather at the same spot and make you feel guilty! Once we ran out of sugar, and gave them pancake syrup! They loved that just as much! Orange juice works well too!
