A word about travel insurance
Well FlaGeorge, I owe you one
I purchased CSA travel insurance thru the forum and got the policy today. CSA's web site SAYS they cover pre-existing conditions. The policy I got today says the policy DOES NOT. I checked out HTH and it looks like a MUCH better policy for the same amount of $$. SORRY ANTHONY
I am going to cancel CSA and go with HTH

For our trips in August with the kids, we have purchased travel insurance on the off chance of the "H" word...which was covered. Although, thankfully, the "H" never happened, the couple hundred dollars for the trip insurance did provide peace of mind.
As an aside, insurance is a funny concept, when you think about it. At it's core, it's gambling. Straight-laced people who abhor gambling still buy insurance. But, aren't they just rolling the dice? "Okay, I'm going to pay X for the premium, but if something bad happens, I'll get X+ in return...but, if the bad thing doesn't happen, I'm out X...hmmmm...should I do it or not?"
Goofy.

Wisconsin, smell the dairy air
I'm one of those trip insurance buyers. Although, I am far from "straight laced"...ha-ha-ha! Or maybe I am and just don't know it!!
But, I am a worrier over "what if" and the "what if" is more over: What if someone in my family gets seriously ill or dies before we leave? Or, what if one of us gets seriously hurt while we are gone? I recently had a friend who fell and cracked her skull while in Mexico. The helicopter alone to airlift her was $35 thousand dollars. That is some big money. I only insure with the company that is paying as the Primary...I want them on-board 1st thing.
Plus for me, it is more a "peace of mind" thing...and well worth the few extra $$'s. But that is just me, I'm all about insurance and I rest easier having it and I'm sure the insurance companies have my number. Ha!!
Of course, the above is just my opinion and works for me.

Please give me your opinion, this is my scenario:
My husband (48 years old)was diagnosed a month ago with prostate cancer. He is scheduled for robotic surgery at UVA medical center in October. We booked a villa and made flight arrangements 2 months ago, before the diagnosis. He says he is hesitant to go to St John IF everything isn't working like it should be if you know what I mean. I personally think it will but you never know.
My question is should I get trip insurance? I read a few posts back that you can get insurance for preexisting conditions which would be our case.
Please let me know what you think!!!

JoAnn - For me, I would get the insurance. Just because you never know what can happen. Just the peace of mind, that if something were to come up, you are covered. In my book it is such a small amount for a lot of peace.
(((HUGS))) and I hope your husband has a speedy recovery and that you two are on STJ in no time!!

Hey Joann I surely don't know much about it but my cousin just had the robotic surgery. he had it on a Tuesday I think and he was walking around the same day and felt fine. If he was out of work 10 days it was a lot. Saw him this summer and he's really well - had the procedure in March/April.
I hope your husband does well!
