Hi there! This past Dec. we rented with Bougainvillea Leasing - Donald Schnell Art Studio people. They were great to work with and we'll use them again in the future.

Good luck!!

Im with Coden. Bougainvillea was great. Very courteous and very efficient and very easy. Our 7 passenger Jeep was new and very comfortable and the a/c worked great! The even have a couple of parking spaces you can use if you hit it at the right time! Good luck.

We've rented from both Penns and L+L and have had terrific experiences with both. In October we are trying St. John Car Rental for something different. I've read good things about them.

Do you need contact information for the car agencies?

We rented thru Courtesy. Very nice people and no hassles. Their office is right next to The Front Yard and the police station and very conveniently located to use their lot to park when you are in town.

Car rental

Hey there. I also indorse Bougainvillea. Have been using them for quite a number of years. Besides the friendly and caring service they have newer vehicles in their fleet and you can usually turn it in on departure day around noon or 1 PM instead of 9:30 or 10 like most of the other folks. Eric and Donald are great to work with. Please use my name...God bless..Bill

I have used Denzil for a couple years now and have always been completely satisfied.

Have fun on your trip!

I love this forum....it's such a great place to get information. We've been debating the car rental issue. We used Penn's in Feb and were very pleased; they were extremely accommodating, convenient Cruz Bay parking, even kept our luggage on our final day and then drove car with luggage to ferry dock.
However, when I called to reserve a car for the first two weeks in September, they quoted a rate of $92.00 per day....$10.00 more than St. John Car Rental for the same vehicle.
I am now thinking we may give Bougainvillea a try, even though husband thinks we should stick with Penn's.
Thanks to all for the information...mia

We used STJ car rental and it was fine. They don't get back to you to confirm your vehicle so you have to call. The vehicle was fine and was ready earlier than we thought it would be.

Mia - agree about Penns. We also wanted to use them again but that daily rate is too much. Its a shame. Maybe they want to decrease that part of their business or be the first to push rates in that direction?

Once again, I am going to make a plug for Conrad Sutton. Their cars are in great shape, they are friendly and easy to deal with, get back to you very promptly when you inquire and rent through them and they have a large enough lot so that whenever you need to park there you are able to.

They are the only car rental agency we use.

Regarding Penns,
They raised their rates because they updated ther fleet, replacing the old vitaras with new jeep liberties. We had a liberty from them in June and really did not like it. The car is harder to control--instead of easing forward, it would just rev up and then lunge. It was not just us, even the guys working there were complaining about it.

Also, the traction was not great. We slid backwards down a switchback on a rainy day. That's never happened to us before.

Additionally, the cd player had issues. The littlest bump would start the cd skipping, every time.

They have that great lot in town, and they are really friendly, but we don't like the new cars. That's why we are getting a wrangler from St. John Car Rental in October. When/if Penns switches from the Liberties to another type of vehicle, we'll defintely rent from Penns again. We did talk with them about our issues with the vehicle, but of course there is nothing they can do about it (until it's time to replace them).

Thanks for scoop on Penns. We are taking a leap of faith on Paris Car Rental in a few weeks. Best price with off season discount, not much said about them here.

Interesting about the lame 4WD on the Liberty. The Wranglers are squeeze for more than 2 with any luggage, but drive like a mountain goat.
In fact might be the preferred vehicle if you knew you had a real tough villa approach.
