Priceline Name Your Own Price

Post by Steve S »

Has anyone ever had success using the Priceline Name Your Own Price to get to STT? I've thought about trying but since the flight you get is a crap shoot, I'm afraid I'd get the last flight which may jeopardize catching the ferry to Cruz Bay.

I have not used Priceline for flights. From what I get off http://p070.ezboard.com/bpricelineandexpediabidding it looks like getting good deals on flights through Priceline is no more. It seems more competitive prices are found on other sites. I do use Priceline for hotels and car rentals on the mainland. And FYI, the Westin on STJ is a Priceline participator.

I haven't used Priceline for flights either...I find it way too scary to place my fate in the hands of the Priceline Gods. ...mia

I have looked at price line, but didnt use it because I dont like surprises. I need specific dates and quite specific times when I travel to make the most of the measely two weeks I can take off every year!

We have used priceline twice a few years ago for getting those extra last minute stagglers from NY who wan to tag along with our villa groups down to STJ. Both times they got a fare under $400 with a late night JFK to San Juan, a 4 or 5 hour layover and then the first American Eagle in the AM. Both times they blew the savings as they were so tied they elected to rent a cheap room at the airport in San Juan.
Havent used it lately.

We used priceline to purchase tickets for my daughter and husband for travel from Atlanta to STT in July and it was A huge nightmare. We did not try to use their scary "just tell us what you want to pay" feature but booked specific flights because we had heard they would be cheaper and we were buying tickets for the entire family. When all was said and done we ended up paying what amounted to regular full price (600.00+ each round trip.) Rather than arriving in St. Thomas at 1:00 in the afternoon as confirmed they arrived at 8:00PM because they were bumped at the last minute from one flight and then told the flight they were on had a 7 hour layover in San Juan. The return trip from St. Thomas took over 17 hours.....when they checked in for their original flights not only had the carriers changed but so had the connection cities AND no one seened sure if the tickets had even been paid for in advance....thank God they had proof. Never again!
