Has anyone stayed in this villa? We are looking at it for 2 weeks in 2008.

Hi greyhoundmom. We have one greyhound at our house. I can't even remember what it was like without him, he's so wonderful. He embraced retirement from the track in a big way.

We stayed at Over the Rainbow on our honeymoon in June 2002, so much may have happened to the villa since in terms of updating. It takes a while to get to Reef Bay and, at the time, the road was pretty bad once you got past the Rendezvous/Fish Bay area. The pics on the CV website are dated. There is a huge powerline right in the middle of the view from the pool. Having said all that, it is nicely laid out with the master suite off the central courtyard and the other bedroom off the livingroom/kitchen pod. We liked the way that room opened right out to the pool deck. The shower in the master suite is large and has a screen to the outside so you feel like you are showering outside. It is older but still a not a bad villa. We were on our honeymoon so we weren't very critical. We were in paradise after all.

Hi Wolfhound

Thanks so much for the information. 2008 will be our 4th summer on St. John. We have stayed in both the tent cottage and Harmony Studios at Maho Bay. It seems to be a reasonable rental with beautiful views. The power line is definitely a trade-off in order to spend 2 weeks in paradise!

We fostered greys for 6 years through our local adoption agency; picking them up from breeders after they were no longer profitable to the tracks (thankfully, there are some breeders who do the right thing and try to find homes for the greys). We kept them usually for 3-6 months before they were adopted, so there were quite a few that we became very attached to. Our grey was 14 when we had to put her down in January, 2005. She was our heart and it was a privilege to have her for 6 years.

My lover NoTanLines was reading this post to me last night while I was cooking dinner for the brood. She was too shy to post (she says one loud mouthed know-it-all in the family is enough) so I'll respond.

We drove out to Reef Bay (or as far as humanly possible) in May. The roads are MUCH improved over past visits and there are many more paved sections. I'd be willing to recommend staying out there to most anyone.

We have friends heading out to Reef Bay the week of 11/3 for two weeks with their 4 yo son and staying at Surfside for the second time. They like that place as well.

Cheers, RickG

Thanks Rick (and NTL!) for the advice. Surfside looks great too, so close to Reef Bay beach.
