Post by Jan&MikeVa »

Just a reminder for anyone interested that Shark Week starts tonight on Discovery. I have no idea what time. Mike insists that I watch the series, he said it will help settle my fears. Oh sure honey..................

A week ago I discovered a 4 ft.nurse shark. It was on the north east side of Oppenheimer.Depth was about 4-5 ft.I recorded the event on my underwater Handycam. At one point I was standing {in sand}3ft. in front of his nose!I wasn't even scared. It was the coolest thing I found on my trip! :D Parafins...

I don't know why I torture myself but I've been glued to Discovery and the Shark Week programs. Jr and I viewed Summer of the Shark yesterday . So now when I get back in the water, the theme from Jaws will be playing on repeat inside my head!

I have been glued to the tube watching Shark Week and now I am feeling a bit nervouse about my up coming trip to STJ. Do Tiger sharks swim in the waters around STJ? Do Lemon Shark's???? The only kinda shark I want to see is a nurse shark.

I actually went on the Stuart's Cove trip, out of the Bahamas (I did not feed the sharks), but I did get in and swim above them for about 1 min. However, I was younger and much braver then.

Here's to Shark Week

I don't think Mike loves me anymore............why does he think I need to be watching this!!! It's made me downright NERVOUS, where before this I was cautiously "okay" with sharks. As always first class job with Discovery, but I don't care for any of it!

I told him last night that I was OVER IT, and if he didn't get OVER THAT then I'd book us somewhere cold in December.......not STJ! I'm pretty sure I'll get control of the remote tonight

My wife and I saw a nurse shark in the shallows at trunk. It was curled up like a cat on the bottom, not moving. I wasn't scared, but my wife went back to shore... it was neat actualy and I took a couple of pics. I was told all about nurse sharks beforehand so I wasn't worried. But in comparison to those suckers they air on sharkweek, no way would I be out there with those. I don't think there would be a lot of people snorkeling in STJ if there were nasties like those in the water. On that note, my wife saw a huge barracuda in Salt pond (I didn't), and I later learned they're nasty when they wanna be. :)
