Sunset spots with kids
Sunset spots with kids
We are traveling with my sister and her 10 yr old twins to STJ at the end of the month. We are staying in a villa that will not have sunset views. This has never been a problem for DH and I before because we usually go out for a sunset drink and then go home and eat in or proceed to dinner. When we travel with larger groups that include kids--someone is always available to stay behind with them.
As I prepare for the trip, it seems our usual haunts will not be kid-friendly. Our favorite spot is the Turtle Bay pavillion at Caneel, whether we are staying there or not. We just go out on the tram, bring a split of champagne and enjoy the pavillion or the headlands above the beach if there is an activity going on in the pavillion. I know kids are not permitted in that spot at Caneel so thats out. Wondering about the beachside bar at the main beach at Caneel. Has anyone seen kids there(in the vicinity) recently?
How about the Beach Bar? Have not been there now in 3 yrs. Do they now have tables in the sand? Could the boys play on the sand while we are at the bar having a drink?
I am also thinking Pastory Gardens. We were up there briefly, but not at sunset. Thinking that might be a good spot for a sunset dinner with kids. Any feedback on that one?
I know the bar and even the restaurant at Zo Zo's is out.
When they were toddlers I stayed at the Westin twice with them, but both times in March. It was so easy to wheel the strollers down to the beach, pick up a drink at the bar and then have them play in the sand at sunset. Dont know if they get the sunset there in August.
I was also thinking that the restaurant at the Campgound at Maho may have a sunset view. I hear it is on the high $ side for dinner, considering the food is mediocre. I also fear being eaten alive by bugs there in August. Any feedback on that one?
Does anyone have an ideas or comments on these spots or others? We do not want to leave sis and the kids home and go ourselves--she loves the sunsets too!

RE: Pastory Gardens - We were there for sunset several years ago, with 3 kids in tow. They played mini golf while we had cocktails and watched the sunset. Then, they joined us for dinner. We went there on the suggestion by the youngest in the group, then 8 years old. We still talk about what a great night it was! Will return just for that next month! It was great fun - for all of us!
