I just flew Spirit from Atlanta-STT for $299 round trip. Decent airline (definitely budget), all flights on time, comfortable seats. It's no frills, but it gets you there cheaply and safely. Note that you will have to pay for checked bags - $5 if you prepay online, $10 if you pay at the airport. They charge for everything but water (it's a couple of bucks for a drink). When I factored it all in, Spirit still came out hundreds cheaper than Delta or AA.

We flew Spirit from ORD to STT on our 2006 trip. I was 8 months pregnant, so opted to upgrad to SpiritPlus (or whatever it's called, it's still cheaper than a regular seat on another carrier). It was a fine trip, on time, relatively comfortable, but definitely no frills. Take your own food and drink. Dress appropriately as I don't think there were even blankets.

Would I do it again? Yep. The money saved is better spent on frivolous things while on vacation.

Only thing about smaller carriers like Spirit is that they often do not have the equipment to make multiple flights per day to certain destinations, so if your particular plane has mechanical problems or is delayed getting to your point of departure, you dont have the option of catching a "later fight" because there are none.

I fly spirit out of detroit often. No problems, low fares and on time. I did offer to defer once due to over booking, and our family of 4 received 4 free roundtrip tickets, hotel and money for meals. I just book for April to STJ from DTW for $295. Wow, during spring break. cant wait. GO FOR IT!

Well, I guess I will throw in my 2 cents here. I ALWAYS fly Spirit to all Caribbean destinations. They have newer planes with few to no proplems. There are some drawbacks but if you get a good deal DO NOT hesitate to fly Spirit. Sodas are free, adult beverages are 5 bucks. They do not take cash on the plane, just plastic. EVERYTHING you do with Spirit is thru the internet as the call center service is THE WORST. But, that being said I have recieved some INCREDIBLE deals from Spirit.
