Off Topic - Sanibel Island FL

Post by Ksea »

Hey all you world travelers! I would love to meet my sister at Sanibel Island in Florida this fall to celebrate our birthdays. Does anyone have any great hotel recommendations? Nothing extravagant, just a room, bar, beach and pool. Well, a beach bar would be nice :wink: Thanks in advance!

We stayed on Sanibel one year and stayed at the Sundial Resort. We had a one bedroom condo. not sure if they have rooms as well. its a nice place though with a nice beach as well.

I have not been there, but I used to book my old boss into this place all the time:

There are beach front cottages that have kitchens and seperate living spaces--that's where he liked to stay.

This is Captiva Island--Sanibel and Captiva are next to each other. I know he said that they always had excellent shelling there.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

My husband and I visited Sanibel a couple of times in the past, thought it was a lovely island. I remember that it has a wildlife refuge area to walk around. We stayed at a motel on the beach-more for the fishing type, not what it sounds like you're looking for, but we enjoyed it. I think I remember that it got hit hard a couple of years ago by a hurricane (charlie?) and captiva really was hammered. hopefully it's all recovered by now. It was a very laid back island and very nice. Have fun!

HI,

We spent a couple of days at the West Wind Inn many, many years ago (early 90's). If I recall there was a pool bar 8)

Also spent some time at South Seas Plantation on Captiva Island. I think I just read that this has been fully redone following the hurricanes a few years ago.

enjoy,

I will quickly second the accolades for 'Tween Waters Inn. Next to St John, this setting is as close to paradise as one can get(IMHO);
We usually stay in Cottage #101, I think that is the 1 BR unit or have stayed next door at the 2BR also. The Bayview efficiencies are great too, but you cant beat the oceanfront cottages for the sunset view.
The pool is great and a great social setting too. The pool bar has very friendly bartenders but it is not open at night. There is a lounge with live music even in the off season. They have some great fall room specials.
We have been making a trip there every year in the fall but this yr with the 2 trips to STJ the wallet is empty. We were just there in March though and I'm sure we will get over when we get back to Florida.
Feel free to PM me for some other places--we get to Sanibel a lot.
