Trip Report Day 1 & 2
When last we heard from our intrepid travlers they arrived in St. John and were settling in sans one suitcase. Day three dawns and suitcase is still MIA. Delta now says they have no idea where it is. 19 yo is growing resigned to the loss of her clothes and is now looking for the silver lining. I decided to step back from the process and let her make the multiple phone calls to Delta and answer the same inane questions over and over again. During the last call she got the bright idea to tell Delta that in addition to her clothes there was a Mac Book Pro in the bag, which she forgot to mention to them previuosly. Not real happy about that, but she's over 18 so the fraud liability is her's.
Day one spent at Trunk Bay. Not too crowded, I think there was only one ship in port. The newbies got to snorkel the trail and all thought the beach was beautiful. We went back to the villa to the pool in the PM and had great laughs aidied by copiuos quantities of rum. Dinner in town at Panni Beach, tried multiple other places, many closed for the night. Dinner was OK, I just have a genetic distaste for paying $25 for a plate of pasta.
By the way, St. John is packed. Definitley no "off season" this year. Seems like there are loads of 20 somethings here, or over from St. Thomas for the day. Beaches are full of very drunk young'ns
Day 2 dawns bright and beautiful. We are slow getting started. Its alot harder to get 5 people moving in the same direction. We pack lunch and beverages and head for Cininmon Bay. Very windy, seems more like Janaury then July. Snorkeling was fair at best, but it was a relaxing day.
I forgot to mention that it appears our villa is undergoing some construction as we speak. Frankly a fact I would have liked to be informed of in advance. Yesterday a truck pulls up and delivers a giant mound of stone for a retaining wall, which now fills 1/3 of the driveway and blocks the path to the deck. In the process the workers damaged an irrigation pipe becaue when we returned yesterday water was flowing from the pipe down the drive. Husband affected a quick repair. But I think you all know what's coming next. The pool also has a leak and the level dropped to the point the filter was starting to suck air. Called the Villa Manager again she said to fill the pool back up. As we were going to sleep last night the sucking sound begins again so we fill it again. Not knowing where the shut off vaule is for the filter and concerned that the filter sysytem could get damaged. This AM we awaken to NO WATER.
I will post a full villa review when we get back, but suffice to say this place has issues. Im not a princess by any means and our house at home is over 100 years old, so Im used to things going wrong, but darn it all this is supposed to be relaxing.
But what the hell, its vacation right. We will call management and hopefully then can get a truck up here in a reasonable amount of time.
Todyas plan, replace 19yo's clothes and hit Vie's Beach this PM
More later ....
