Travelers cheques

Post by Bilter »

Just wondering? do the restaurants allow travelers cheques for payment or do I have to haul the Brinks Truck to the island?

Just bring a credit card - TC are accepted but I don't think I have ever seen anyone use them (well maybe only once)

I hates them, nasty Travelers Cheques. They really are a pain and unneccesary. Credit cards and ATMs work fine. I usually start with $500 cash.

All the restaurants that we have eaten in on St. John took traveler's checks. You shouldn't have a problem.

I like using them. I don't like to carry a lot of cash. We put them in the villa safe and take out what we'll need for the day.

We like to use traveler's checks too. That way we have a mix of funds... credit cards, travelers checks, and cash. If we need cash and are not near an ATM, we have an alternative.

If we don't use them all, we just deposit them back in the bank when we get home.

Unfortunately, AAA (who sells them to their members without a charge) told me they won't be selling them any longer after (I think) September, however. They said they're going to start providing some type of a travel cash card (sounds like a debit card). I probably won't use that product... I already have debit cards and the AAA ones could have fees I would imagine!
