This last time we stayed at the Mafolie Hotel - http://mafolie.com/ - will have to do a review. Cat would be a better person to tell you about this hotel as they got into STT in the middle of the day and we didn't get to the hotel till about 8:30. It was nice enough for a one night stay and the restaurant had a GREAT view - just a tad bit dissapointed that it did not stay open late enough for us to eat when they said they would be open till 10pm, but hey we got to eat at Sib's on the Mountain before it closed for good :)

Based on location alone, I would probably choose the Holiday Inn because it was so easy and close to the CA ferry (which wasn't running at the time) but it was alot more expensive.

If you want to know more about either, pm me and I will tell you all I can.

I really enjoyed Mafolie! The bartender by the pool was great and Sibs was an unexpected treat! The beds were comfortable, great view and peaceful atmosphere. They had acab for us in about 15 minutes. I would definitly stay there again.

Sib's ??

Post by Dana »

Sib's has closed ???? We haven't been back since 2004, but are planning to be there May, 2008 and were hoping to visit Sib's once again. It was the first drink we had on island after our friends retreived us from the old quonset-hut airport in 1983 and stopped at Sib's for a drink and a burger before going to their house. Please say it isn't so!!!

Dana - sadly, they said June 30th was their last night open and we were there on the 21st.

I can't remember what they said the owners were doing with it though. I think something about a restaurant.

For one night on STJ for 2 people we stay at the Tamarind Court. It's reasonably priced, clean, A/C, walk from the STJ ferry dock and no frills. You do have to make it past Woody's to check in.

We arrived on the last night of Carnival on STT this year. There were no one night rentals on STJ available and there were very few options on STT for just one night. We ended up at Bluebeard's Castle Hotel up on the hill. It was the most affordable and it worked well for us. We found the place to be clean and just a little worn. The restaurants on site were great. I wouldn't want to spend my whole vacation there, but for one night, it worked fine! It was so nice to be on STT for the first night because they lost part of our luggage. They delivered it to the hotel before we left in the morning so we avoided the whole find your luggage challenge at the ferry dock on St. John.

I just wish I'd remembered to go down a day early on this next trip. I was too excited to go again and just booked airfare for the days of our villa rental.

Thanks for all the great suggestions and websites. I did a online search before posting this subject and nothing came up for one night, so it great that you all know about all these great places.

The Mafolie

Post by lovestj »

Two years ago we stayed over in STT one night before going to STJ. We stayed at the Mafolie and had a nice experience. The were very helpful with helping to get our lost luggage over to STJ. The restaurant was good and the bar has a great view.

Not sure of your budget but if you are willing to splurge the Ritz is great..rum punch upon arrival, the infinity pool, hoist your flag from your beach chair and staff will bring you a drink..lol, great views of St John..it's beautiful.

I have alway thought this looks nice - but I have never stayed there so I can't say one way or another - but it might be worth a call :)

Thanks, California Girl, DonnaC and Pia. Galleon and At Home look good, sorry DonnaC but the Ritz is not in
my price range. I am still checking with my group (2 other couples) to see who wants to come down early.
The sun goddess and I are definetly going to try it this year. Thanks again for everyone's help.
