1 night in St. Thomas prior to St. John trip
nothintolose wrote:We have done it three of our four trips and have stayed at the Charlotte Amalie Holiday Inn two of the three times. It was the most convenient and you can walk to Frenchtown for dinner even if you get in late.
This last time we stayed at the Mafolie Hotel - http://mafolie.com/ - will have to do a review. Cat would be a better person to tell you about this hotel as they got into STT in the middle of the day and we didn't get to the hotel till about 8:30. It was nice enough for a one night stay and the restaurant had a GREAT view - just a tad bit dissapointed that it did not stay open late enough for us to eat when they said they would be open till 10pm, but hey we got to eat at Sib's on the Mountain before it closed for good![]()
Based on location alone, I would probably choose the Holiday Inn because it was so easy and close to the CA ferry (which wasn't running at the time) but it was alot more expensive.
If you want to know more about either, pm me and I will tell you all I can.

I really enjoyed Mafolie! The bartender by the pool was great and Sibs was an unexpected treat! The beds were comfortable, great view and peaceful atmosphere. They had acab for us in about 15 minutes. I would definitly stay there again.
Sib's ??
Sib's has closed ???? We haven't been back since 2004, but are planning to be there May, 2008 and were hoping to visit Sib's once again. It was the first drink we had on island after our friends retreived us from the old quonset-hut airport in 1983 and stopped at Sib's for a drink and a burger before going to their house. Please say it isn't so!!!

We arrived on the last night of Carnival on STT this year. There were no one night rentals on STJ available and there were very few options on STT for just one night. We ended up at Bluebeard's Castle Hotel up on the hill. It was the most affordable and it worked well for us. We found the place to be clean and just a little worn. The restaurants on site were great. I wouldn't want to spend my whole vacation there, but for one night, it worked fine! It was so nice to be on STT for the first night because they lost part of our luggage. They delivered it to the hotel before we left in the morning so we avoided the whole find your luggage challenge at the ferry dock on St. John.
I just wish I'd remembered to go down a day early on this next trip. I was too excited to go again and just booked airfare for the days of our villa rental.

The Mafolie
Two years ago we stayed over in STT one night before going to STJ. We stayed at the Mafolie and had a nice experience. The were very helpful with helping to get our lost luggage over to STJ. The restaurant was good and the bar has a great view.

I have alway thought this looks nice - but I have never stayed there so I can't say one way or another - but it might be worth a call

Thanks, California Girl, DonnaC and Pia. Galleon and At Home look good, sorry DonnaC but the Ritz is not in
my price range. I am still checking with my group (2 other couples) to see who wants to come down early.
The sun goddess and I are definetly going to try it this year. Thanks again for everyone's help.
