Jeep Wrangler

Post by jdw »

Just how much luggage will fit in a Wrangler? There will be three adults - one suitcase each, plus a cooler. Will that work????

The only time you'll need to fit your luggage and 3 people in your Jeep would be arriving and departing. Arriving, if you're staying at a villa, your agent should meet you and take your luggage to the villa. I know if you're at Gallows Point or Estate Lindholm, they meet you at the ferry dock and take your luggage up for you.

Departing, you're going to have to make 2 trips I'm afraid. Not a big deal.

My opinion.... 3 people and a Jeep Wrangler is a pain, even without luggage. Getting in and out of the back seat is not easy, I'd rather have something with 4 doors

I agree about getting something with 4 door like a Grand Vitara, it's just easier.

How about getting one of those 4 door Wranglers. We saw quite a few of these on STJ when we where there in June. I can't tell you, though, who rents them.

Bougainvillea Leasing advertises the 4 door Wranglers. I don't have any experiences with them, but reports on the forum are good.

The problem with the four door Wrangler is the size. Our villa has a challenging driveway (thanks for the info liamsaunt) so I called Bougainvillea and found out that the four door Wrangler is even larger than the Liberty. Evidently the larger vehicle is not good for this driveway!! I am now thinking about a four door Vitara....

if you get some thing with a hard top bring some bungie cords with you so you can strap luggage to the top they also work great for beach chairs.

Another thing to consider if one of your reasons for renting the Wranger is for the convertible top - St. John Car Rental would not let us take the top off of our Jeep last July. Don't know what the policy is with other rentals. Wish I had known in advance or I would have gotten a different car. I am kinda short and its tough for me to see over the dash of a Wrangler, but my husband used to own a Jeep and really wanted one while we were there.

Speaking as the one that had to ride in the back of the wrangler a few times this last trip...get a 4 door car!

It was a pain in the a$$ getting in and out of it and that's not even with luggage involved. For two people, it's great though!

You might want to think about Suzuki Grand Vitara. It isnt that much more. Also it has FOUR doors. Which I agree with the board, is a very good thing. The jeep Wrangler works for 2 or 3 people. The Vitara also has more room for the beach stuff.
Its all good!

The 4-door vitara will work for the driveway--that's what we had last year and it was no problem. We were even able to turn the car around at the end of the driveway, which made things a lot easier. The liberty was too big.

$500 fine per day for the removal of the soft top is standard.
