La Papaya Paradise: Part 6
Wednesday morning, we all got up early and headed out to do the hike out to Waterlemon Cay for some snorkeling. We parked at the Annaberg ruins, and began the 1/2 mile-or-so trek out to the cay. It was early, so there were only one or two other people walking the trail, and it was still pretty quiet and not too hot out yet. The trail is an easy one; it mainly hugs the rocky shoreline, but goes a few yards into the woods in some places, and we spotted lots of holes in the dirt where big land crabs peeked out at us; termite nests; big, jet-black milipedes wrapped around low tree branches; and lots of birds and assorted little reptiles darting here and there.
The snorkeling at Waterlemon Cay was great. There were lots of sea turtles out there. The bay itself is also gorgeous. We stayed there snorkeling for awhile, then a few more parties of hikers started showing up, and the rocky shoreline started to get a little more crowded. We'd already seen a lot by then, so we packed up and started the hike back. On the way back, there were LOTS of people just on their way out to the cay, and we were glad we had gotten up early and had the place practically to ourselves before it became crowded.
After leaving, we wanted to hit Trunk Bay, but there was no parking anywhere....neither in the lot or for quite a ways up and down the road. We went further down the road and went to Cinnamon Bay instead. Once on the beach at Cinnamon, we stayed for a little while, but the wind was whipping down the beach that day, toppling chairs and sending hats and shirts flying, and the sand was blowing around also, so we didn't stay too long. But we did decide to stick around long enough to have lunch at the Tree Lizard Restaurant, the open-air cafe at Cinnamon Bay Campground. The friendly ladies who worked there told us to feed whatever we couldn't finish to the cats that hang out there.
We left Cinnamon after lunch and headed back to La Papaya for some afternoon swimming. Swimming in the pool at La Papaya, up in the hills with the view of the Caribbean, was like being on top of the world. We loved just swimming and sunning there. I miss it!
A bird had sort of adopted us and visited us at the pool every time we swam. He didn't seem afraid of people at all. He stuck around long enough for us to take some shots of him now and then.
That night, my husband went out and picked up a couple of pizzas for the kids, and he and I got dressed up a little and went to Chloe and Bernards, the restaurant at the Westin, which was just down the hill from us. We didn't have a reservation, but we just walked in and were seated by a window with a pretty view of the grounds below and the water beyond. We watched the sunset while dining on filet mignon and Champagne by candlelight. It was a nice ending to the day. Back at the villa, we joined the kids for one more night swim before turning in for the night.
Another great day in paradise.

susanna,
great reports and pictures. bride and i are entralled with upper rockridge and those unbelievable views. we usually travel with one other couple we've know for over 40 yrs (bunch of old f*rts) and have stayed at treasure ridge above and to left of la papaya and temptress, above and to the right of lapapaya. i keep looking at lapaya but hard to justify extra expense for larger villa like lapapaya.
we are working on a trip that could envolve 4 couples next spring and she's available. hope it works out. any negatives for 4 couples?
