Trip Report 6-16 / 6-25 (part 2)

Post by JJShaw »

First off...let me say thanks for all the nice comments on my earlier post...:)

(Monday-18th) We were still thrilled to be there..no matter any problems with the Villa...and was in awe struck with how beautiful Coral Bay and the other North Shore Beaches had been the day before...as I had said..we had only visited as a cruiser for a cpl hrs in Sept so we made sure we stopped at the beaches we could get too on sunday..but our favorite that we wanted to visit by far was Trunk and we wanted to go when it wasnt so crowded...so we waited til early monday...after all thats where he proposed to me in Sept when we were there before so its a special place to us both.So we only saw fit to have the honeymoon at St John. We were up at the crack of dawn getting things together..including our neat sheet.lol...we were there before it opened, and had even made a quick stop at Jumbie on the way. These were the 2 we didnt stop at on sunday because Trunk was crowded and there was no where to park at Jumbie..when we got there we were the only ones on the beach at Trunk for awhile and it was beautiful to say the least...We didnt snorkel when we there in sept...(prolly good thing I might have drown after the proposal I was so shocked)..LOL
We were amazed at the fish and colors .. I had snorkled in Cozumel and a few other places in the carribean but this was really beautiful..we hoped that our disposal cameras would be able to capture the images as we saw them...we took a break .. the beach began to fill up..went back in for a bit and when we came out this time...I thought we may have to run people off the neat sheet... the beach was so crowded...People yelling sure was alot different than it had been earlier...soon we rinsed off and headed back to the villa for a bite of lunch.. we pooled it for bit and hung out there .. went into town later on that evening met Ruth at St John Spice..what a treat it was too meet her...shes a very sweet lady..
We did more shopping and bought matching hook bracelets..they are nice.. Im very pleased with our purchase..We stopped by the beach bar we each had a drink and we headed back to the Villa once again..we were tired I had gotten us up before daylight I think..
(Tuesday-19th)
We decided to try snorkeling Waterlemon on ths day and it didnt dissapoint at all. Again we were there early in the AM...it made the walk in alot nicer and we pretty much got our choice of parking spots...:)
We saw lot of different fish and the coral was wonderful. We had gone alway out to the point before we realized it..once again we had our disposable cameras and had taken up what film we had hoping the pics would be good. We didnt see any star fish and I had so hoped we see them or at least one...but they werent there that day..we swam about everywhere but there was none that we saw..We got out for a bit..then decided to head back into the villa.
We stopped by cimmaron on the way back in and got a cooler..yeah...we finally have one..We went back to the Villa again for some pool time and have lunch again. Most mornings we had breakfast there and ate lunch in and went out for dinner somewhere with the excpetions of grilling out with some steaks and such I had brought from home. I did some laundry while we just hung out for a bit... then later on we went into Cruz bay and visited some of the shops there..we were still in awe at all the colors and fish we had seen for the last 2 daysand how beautiful the island was. We found ourselves wishing we had bought an underwater digital that we had looked at online before we left for the trip..we have a Cannon but the housing is more expensive for it than the camera we had looked at..speaking of...I have pics from day 1 just have to figure out how to get loaded with my post. We went to JJ's Texas Toast for dinner.. I had a burger which was really good, hubby had the grouper burger he enjoyed it..this is the one place we did go back to..but they were closed :(..We asked the waitress if there was a camera shop on STJ she said there was. We told her what we were looking for and asked did she know if they sold the Olympus 770 she said they did and she had that camera and we chatted about it for awhile she said how much she enjoyed hers..so we ate and was off to Cruz Bay Photo..we got there was all excited to purchase (even though we knew it would be more expensive there) we decided it would be worth it to have it. But when we got there..he was sold out...none to be found..he told us to try St Thomas at Havensight...we asked if he thought they were open and he said yes...so off the ferry we go barely catching the 5 pm one .. once we were in Red Hook we asked the taxi to take us to Havensight and he did...to the tune of 50.00 he thought we were cruisers trying to catch our ship I suppose. but as it turned out all the camera shops were closed and we went back to the STJ with no camera and a 50.00 less due to an over charged taxi ride...but that wasnt the end of it..I eventually bump into him and ask him about it..as I said..he must have thought we were cruisers..;)...We headed to bed kinda early as tomorrow we were to sail with Captain Clark on the White Wing .. one of the things we were looking forward to doing while we were there.
It had been a terrific day no matter what we were there to have a good time and we did...

PS.. anyone have any advice as far as uploading pics to the post? thanks

Loving your report! There's only one thing, it's actually JJ's Texas COAST. I called it "Texas Toast" for the last 10 years until I was sitting inside and read the sign!!!! You would have thought someone in the family would have corrected me. The whole time, they thought I was trying to be funny. Wrong!!!!

Keep them coming!!!

Thanks for the great report!
I highly recommend the underwater housing, even thoughi it is 2/3 the cost of the camera. I think that is was worth it.

Hydee ho..Good stuff. Sorry about the "wild camera chase". I just got a 760 off ebay along with a housing. Needed it beacuse my niece took my Olympus stylus on her honey moon to Tahiti and guess where it is today. Yep probably down about 110 feet off Bora Bora. Came off her wrist on her last dive while trying to get out of the water which was occupied by about 10 Hammerheads near the boat. Worst thing was they lost over 100 dive pic's. You will love the Olympus. Its worth the money and the housing is also worth the money, imho. God bless....Bill
