capiz, cielo vistaand humbird are about half way to top 0f ghill from reef bay rd and not far before entrance to v grand est., but once you get that far ghill rd is piece of cake.

had a taurus in oct 05 while on ghill and came up that way couple of times, not easy and doubt could have done after a shower. glad we had a jeep past jan and road was in much worst condition. areas of rd from reef bay to capiz are now probably in worse condition of any "rd map" rd on stj but is much better than some of roads been on in coral bay area. if i was required to do reaglarly, i'd want a 4 wheel dr vehicle.

I love to drive up to Gifft Hill from the South Shore (at least when the road is dry)---those switchbacks and views are pretty amazing. Mary Beth, you are correct---Villa Capiz is closer to the south shore than Centerline, but you could certainly take either route.

Hey Mary Beth,

We just got back last month from staying in Virgin Grand Estates. We saw Villa Capiz, it's just South of the entrance to Virgin Grand.

I think your villa is definately closer to South Shore Road, but we used Gift Hill Rd to Centerline to go to the beaches or into town. Gift Hill Rd is pretty tore up, not to mention 4 speed bumps that you encounter around the school. But for some reason we just found that way easier, especially to the beaches. You will certainly see all the cows being talked about. The herd continues to grow each year, but you know how slow they move.........just be careful.

The only reason I'd take South Shore Rd would be to head down towards the Westin or the Grocery Store near there.

The views from Gift Hill are awesome, but the road can be a pain in the.........

I'll never forget the first time we drove UP to Gifft Hill. I swear my body was damn near parallel with the road in a couple spots. I forgot about the speed bumps and mb, you will definitely have to give the cows the right of way up there. Believe me, they own the roads and they know it!

I imagine it has only gotten worse in the last couple years. I lived on Gifft and Regenback, and the views were amazing heading towards S. Shore.......but pretty much the only reason I took that direction was to go to Fish Bay.....
I always came up against me and a cement truck headed towards the bulding of Bellevue........I learned the hard way........
Try both and see...........remember you will be on island time.........no rush
