Please, cross your fingers for us

Post by linne »

Only five days left before we leave our home for 23 days. First night Manhattan, then STT, STJ and STX, last night Newark. I'm so exited. Even though we have travelled a lot, I have never been in this part of the world before, and I have never, ever used so much time to plan a vacation or made such a detailed plan at all. Know exactly where to stay every night, what to see, which beaches and which trails to try, and not only that - also which restaurants are a must, and which menu is recommended (this I will not tell our friends, they would think, I have lost my mind)! As you perhaps can understand, I am an addictive reader of the USVI boards - reading all trip reports, questions and answers, Rick's advice for Newbies, seeing pictures etc., which also means that my expectations just have grown higher and higher, especially about STJ.

I have seen that people often are visiting STJ for wedding, honeymoon or anniversary, so I think I
will tell you that we in a way are celebrating our Rubin wedding (who can beat that?). Last year we had been married for 40 years. It's not common here that you celebrate a Rubin wedding, but we decided to do that. Who knows how the world will be to our Golden wedding? The question was: go on a journey or have a party? We decided to have a big celebration the day of the Rubin wedding and then take a long vacation this year. The celebration was a big success, so now we hope that the vacation will be the same.

So please "forumfriends", you have been so very, very helpful, cross your fingers for us: that my efforts about planning this vacation will be rewarded, that my husband, who hasn't been so much involved in the planning, will not be disappointed, that the flights will be nearly in time, no strikes, no hurricanes, not too many bugs- in short -that nothing will happen, which can spoil our vacation!

Hi Wish

I think we know it as a Ruby Wedding Anniversary (40 years)
Linne let us know if this is correct.

You have to forgive me my bad English, my excuse is that I normally do not use English, only on vacation. To write here therefore cost me a great effort, and I have hesitated for some month before I started. “Rubin” should have been “Ruby”. I was sure that the word has to be spelt in the same way as in Danish and have not looked in my dictionary. Sorry!

It is Sunday afternoon here. What time would it be in Denmark?
You post was excellent. There was no problem understand you. We of course, take English for granted and forget how hard it is for someone who does not use the language often.

I am curious as to how you chose SJ, which is so far away from Denmark for an island vacation?

Have a wonderful time. Relax!

Even though we came back the end of May after spending 10 days, I would still like to return with you.

Linne: I think you write English wonderfully! Much better than my Danish (which is NONE!). My grandfather came to the USA from Denmark in the early 1900's, maybe we're long lost cousins? Don't worry about your English, you do just great!

Linne: Have a wonderful time! Your husband and friends are lucky that you have done so much terrific research.

Remember the picture that Anthony posted, of the woman sitting on the noodle (rather suggestively)? When you go to the Baths at Virgin Gorda, please have someone take a picture of you sitting on the noodle like that! We'd all crack up.
