Trip Report #4 Day 6 - Maho and Hawksnest

Post by sea-nile »

Day 6

Michael's favorite beach was Maho so we went there again early in the morning.

We were the only ones at Maho when we arrived.
It was cloudy and looked like rain but we went anyway. We started to get eaten alive by mosquitoes (the first bites I had on the trip). I got in the water right away to stop the biting. I snorkeled out a little expecting everyone to follow and it started to rain. I looked behind me and my family was on the beach laughing at me, but what the heck, I was already wet. They decided to join me and while we were out there it stopped raining and the sun came out.

We saw sharks, angelfish and a lot of fish in general. We did a second snorkel where we swam over to little Maho and saw a turtle on our way back.

There were a lot of Angelfish and I followed this Queen Angelfish and she was shy so this is the best picture I got.

We headed to Hawksnest and had our packed sandwiches on a picnic table before heading out to the beach. I stepped on the beach and thought of Waterguy (Tom) and his wife and how her ashes were spread there. I paid my respects and said a prayer. I can definitely see why it was her favorite beach. I thought about Tom and his wife the whole time I was there.

We snorkeled Hawksnest along the left side where it is very shallow. We saw a turtle and several reef squid. Then we took a break and a walk and went again and saw more reef squid and other fish.

Then we went to town and did a lot of shopping. We went all over town and to Mongoose Junction. I bought a necklace for my Mom at Bamboula, but decided to keep it and I will get her one in November when I go back. :D Mary got a necklace there too.

We went to St John Spice again and Ruth wasn't there again. Mary bought a mug and Michael was looking because he had $7.00 left.

We went to Woody's and got a drink and Michael got Subway.

We went home and swam and went to Sunset at Frank Bay again. It was kind of hazy, but I got this picture with my forum koozie/huggie.

We had steak on the grill. M and M and I went in the hot tub again and listened to Bob Marley. It is the only music we could all agree on. The kids are sick of Jimmy Buffett and no one likes the Kenny Chesney CD but me.

Went to bed early again.

Tomorrow:
Trunk Bay again and Cinnamon

I am loving your photos. Did you snorkel on the left or the right at Maho? We did the left and saw lots of fish, but only little ones. No sharks or turtls!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

We were always on the right (as you step out on the beach) and found that it was really good; one of the best.

Sea-Nile, I agree that your pics are great. You are capturing some great images. One question, how did the Aqua Jogger work for your little man? I was going to buy one for mine but the guy at the dive shop told me he should continue using the snorkel vest if needed. Did he like it? Thanks!

The aqua jogger was great! It turned him from a non-swimmer to a kid who swam around the Trunk Bay cay twice and the Waterlemon Cay.
I would highly recommend it.

I bought that bumper sticker for my Mom in STJ that says "Well behaved women rarely make history". :D

Here is the link to the Aqua Jogger.
I really think it helped my son learn to swim in STJ!
