Deserted beaches Ugh!

This forum is my therapy. Don't know what I would do without it. I am a St John addict and just had to share this story with my fellow obsessors!

A friend of mine always takes cruises. I told her the next time she is on St. Thomas, she must get over to St. John. she knows we go every year and how much we love it.

finally last month she took an excursion over to St. John on a catamaran. She said "they took my husband and I over to a deserted beach! There wasn't anyone on the beach, only us! The sand was pure white, the colors of the water were beautiful but not a person in sight. She couldn't believe it. Why didn't they take us to a resort with other people so we could have some fun." She was quite disappointed.

I just looked at her for a minute and really couldn't think of anything to say. I just ending up saying, that's St John, i guess its not for you.

Funny, how my idea of paradise is someone's misery!

Ive been on cruises and loved them. Ive been to resorts and loved them too but Im really looking forward to a more laid back atmosphere this year. That's why we picked St. John. It looks beautiful, we can all stay in one house with our own pool, we can go to non crowded beaches and just do whatever. Definately counting the days!

Yes, your friend certainly does not "get it"...oh well, her loss and our gain and more deserted beaches for us. Yippee!! LOL

The story about your friend reminds me of a STJ trip report I read awhile back on another board. The author was also cruising and visited while in port at St Thomas. The general gist was that he had been disappointed with Trunk Bay because, even though it was beautiful, there were no lounge chairs on the beach and no wait staff. He did not care for Cruz Bay either because the shopping didn't compare to that in other ports of call. He summed it up by saying that STJ was okay but he wouldn't bother with it again.

There is definitely a differnt version of paradise for all of us! A co-worker raved about the cruise she went on, with the shops and restaurants on board. ("They have a Ben and Jerry's!") I kept thinking, "Sounds like a mall. Yuck." Certainly when it comes to cruises, she'd be fair in saying that I don't "get it." Other people told me that my family would be bored in Hana, Maui, because there's "nothing to do." Hello?! Only the most incredible sights and hiking!

Happily, it's a big beautiful world with something for all of us! (I'll join you on that deserted beach!)

Someone putting a towel down on your chair for you is my brother's idea of paradise. We tried and tried to get him and his wife to come down with us and stay at the villa for only the difference in cost form 2 to 4 ppl but he does not understand. He says to me "I want to stay in the U.S" DUH I say it *is* the U.S. dum dum. No dice. He thinks he might get sick again like he did in Mexico. I told him not to go back but does he listen? No, he goes again and gets sick again and now he doesn't want to leave the continental US. When we went to Fl a few weeks ago we decided to try this resort he went to and raves about. Pricey, nice but not the beauty I like. At 4pm sharp the guys were riding and revving their ATV's to pick up beach chairs. One sat right behind me until we got up to leave. That's my UGH!
It's nice to have service but better to have privacy and that open container thing- that rocks too

Bill, I see you're from New York and as a New Yorker myself I have a lot
of friends who NEED the crowds to feel they're having a good time (just check out the Hamptons). I however NEED the peace of that empty beach and the beauty of the blue waters (even though I have a place in East Hampton). I guess everyone's entitled to their own bliss.

It took my wife & I many trips to the caribbean before we discovered STJ. Each trip we took, we learned more about what we really like in a vacation. To us STJ was all about just chillin, snorkeling, chillin, Beach Bar, chillin, amazing (deserted) beaches, chillin, great people, and maybe some more chillin. I'm pretty sure we "Get It" after one visit

Wow. I'm reading this, and I, don't know what to say...

However, I get it! That's why we love good ole St. John! When my wife and I went, it was during the down season, and the people were minimal. And we loved every minute of it.
