Daylight Come and Me Luggage Be Gone

Post by Randy in MD »

I knew it was a mistake to leave... After a week of fun and smiles, great new forum friends (you know who you are...), and tending to the business of that little villa we're building, we set out from Coral Bay at 10AM yesterday morning. At 1AM this morning we pulled into the driveway in Maryland. In between, we had our first island auto mash-up (on STT: 10 minutes from the rental car return - a one lane street, traffic suddenly going both ways, everyone keeping left - do the math...), a delay in our flight out of San Juan leading to an arrival at the wrong DC airport, a midnight taxi ride to the right DC airport to pick up our car, a 2AM dinner (catered by 7-11), and now in the muddled glow of the aftermath, our luggage is still somewhere between San Juan and home... Come home, my salty wet bathing trunks!!! Details and pictures to follow. In the meantime, I need a rum drink... Must get more muddled... Lesson learned: never leave...

Thanks - it should be done by mid-July, but we're not offering it until October. I hope we learned a lesson or two from the Bongo Boys in that regard. Besides, we want to test drive it a few times ourselves. Thanks for asking... BTW - the airline now says our luggage arrived in DC this morning and went out for delivery to us at noon! Uh... it's almost 8 and we're an hour away. Methinks the drivers are from the islands...

Thanks Randy. We are staying on Gifft Hill in Nov. but we think next time we are branching out to the Coral Bay side. I'm going to put your place on our short list! Best of luck!

Randy has a great sense of humor in his writing, a lot like, Rick, Bongo Boys, Jorge and Pete! I really have enjoyed following this villa's progress!

And a waffle iron that will make the neighbors lights dim! I wonder if it has its own 50 amp circuit?

Reef Madness is in a great spot...

Cheers, RickG

Baggage Update: Still no baggage. AA cannot reach the baggage courier (curiously known as AA Courier). It left Washington National at noon. It's now 9:45PM. My baggage is having a worse trip home than me. I must prepare a rum drink for its arrival.

Vicki - There's rum mixer in those bags along with the wet bathing suits. God help the courier if they come in contact with each other... As for the painting... The good news is that there were workers crawling all over the house (actually working!). The bad news is that we decided on Tuesday that there was just too much dust and commmotion going on to do any work that wouldn't get trashed. So we did what we had to do - headed for Maho. Then our builder called and invited us to go over to Tortola with him on Wednesday and pick up a 47' catamaran with him and sail it back to St. John. We decided that this was better than painting. The hired hands will be doing that for us next week...

Randy- sorry about the luggage... carry-on only now, right? ;)

I love the attitude you guys have- you are not "excitable" as some, which seems to be working for you. :)

As for leaving, you're right, BIG mistake! Hope your wet suits get home before you need them again.
