skimboards for rent?
skimboards for rent?
Does anyone know if they rent skimboards anywhere on STJ, like maybe at Cinnamon Bay Beach? My son wants to buy one and bring it.
First of all, I don't think it will fit in the suitcase and second of all, are there enough waves for this?
I thought maybe if someone rents them we could go that route.

I don't know where you can buy/rent skimboards in STJ, but surf shops generally sell them. Perhaps Big Planet at Mongoose may carry them. Bringing one with you would be a pain to lug.
From my experience at the Jersey Shore (I surfed a little but didn't skimboard), I think the best conditions for skimboarding are where the beach is gradual (not steep) and when the tide is receding. I think they surf on Tortola (near Bomba?) so there could be decent waves there. For STJ, perhaps the left side of Trunk Bay may be good.

No, they're different. A skimboard is made from (painted) plywood and you stand on it and "skim" across the water. A boogie board is made of foam where you lay on your stomach and ride waves like a surfer.brenda wrote:Is a skimboard like a "boogie board"? If so, you can rent them at Cinnamon. Thought about bringing my skimboard to the islands. But thought about it more and figured it would be a pain to lug around when i go. Althou i seen some pictures of beachs and it would seem to be fun along the shore..
As for skimboards. They can be made of thin plywood type wood. Or with fiberglass and foam. Course those are the most expensive type ones. I have a Zap brand one and it really is a blast.
