Trip Report: 5/12-5/19; Part 2 w/ wedding pics

Here are some photos from the wedding day. My brother was my official photographer (and we hired a videographer), but I'm still waiting to see those pics. These will have to do for now.

Update: my friend just posted some pictures they took on our trip. http://www.comai.org You have to go to PHOTOS then Spring 07 and she has them divided up by day. (sorry there's not a direct link)

We decided to get married on Hawksnest Beach around 9:00am. Anne Marie Porter was our officiant and 8 of our friends/family were there. We hand-made my bouquet from flowers around our villa (I hope that's okay - there were so many flowers, you couldn't even tell we picked any)... Everything went perfectly! It was pretty cool to have all the attention. We felt like we were the center of a magazine shoot or something. :-) We also stopped at several scenic overlooks for pics and ended up at Annaberg. What an awesome place! After the wedding we BBQed lunch and then went down to Francis for a refreshing swim. That night we had dinner at ZoZo's. Because of some clouds and the haze, there wasn't much of a sunset, but the food was wonderful and the waiter was so nice!

Wednesday we spent the day on the White Wing with Captain Clark. While we were waiting on the dinghy dock at Coral Bay 2 different people walked by and asked if were were going sailing. When we said 'yes' they kind of laughed as they said 'have fun' because apparently the waves were a little rough that day. Clark was really great and he made us all feel at home on the boat. We went to 2 different snorkel spots. The 2nd spot was Flannagan Island. I have to admit, I was a little scared to get in the water here. The waves were kind of big and the way they were crashing into the rocks was a little scary. Clark took us out in the dinghy and followed us all the way back, which made me feel a little bit better. I am so glad I got in the water - this was probably one of the most beautiful places I've ever snorkeled. We even saw a shark here! Well, about 3/4 of a shark. It was lying on the bottom and it's head was hidden by a rock. It's probably better this way - if it had been swimming I'm not sure how I would have reacted! Now the bad part of the trip... I got seasick. Not much fun, but you do feel much better afterwards. I still had a great day, it didn't totally ruin it for me. Once we were back in the bay and the waves were clam, I was totally fine... I really was happy to be back on solid ground again, though. After that we had burgers at Skinny Legs. Yummy...

Thursday several of us decided to attempt the Reef Bay Trail Hike (without a park guide). It was great going down hill. Their was a trickle of a 'waterfall' at the petroglyphs. It would be really great to see that with more water, but I hear it's hardly ever running. The ruins were amazing, but there were lots of bees that only seemed to like me. We had a picnic lunch on the beach and cooled off in the water. As we walked along the beach we saw quick a bit of washed up dead coral. That was kind of sad and we renamed it the Coral Graveyard. As we were sitting on the beach the Guided Trail Group showed up. We were pretty happy we didn't opt for that trip. I think it's nicer to be in a smaller group to really enjoy the nature. Then it was time to start back up the trail. NOT FUN! We made it, but we probably should have had more water with us. It's tough to turn a corner and see a solid incline, then when you get to the next corner it's ANOTHER solid incline.. It felt like it would never end. If we had gone a little slower it might not have been so bad, but once we started going, we didn't want to lose our momentum. It was SO NICE to get to the top and get into our Air conditioned jeep. :-) We stopped at a place with a great scenic outlook over Coral Bay and had a smoothie. It was so refreshing!

up next: our final full day on island and the return trip home...
