Restaurant attire
Restaurant attire
Hello!
We are heading down in 12 days. It's been 3 years and I'm looking for a refresher course on proper attire for evening dining. Are nice shorts OK for guys?
Looking at middle priced restaurants such as Lime Inn, Banana Deck.
How about Zozo's for one special evening?
Thank you!
Joe

Re: Restaurant attire
Joe, 12 days - lucky you! I only bring shorts to St John - definitely nice shorts are appropriate anywhere, including even Zozo's (nice shorts and a collared shirt i.e. button down Tommy Bahama type shirt, or even a collared Polo). Have a blast!

Re: Restaurant attire
Yep, we only bring shorts. I wear shirts with a collar to dinner. But, t-shirts are common.

Re: Restaurant attire
Usually, the women dress up for dinner and the men are in shorts and flip flops.
I appreciate my husband who always dresses up (long pants, collared shirt, and real shoes ) for fine dining.
Depends on the restaurant. Zozo's and others of that type deserve dress up.

Re: Restaurant attire
My husband wore long pants to ZoZo's and regretted it... sitting on the rail at sunset was sooooo hot... polo shirt and shorts and flip flops work for sure.

Re: Restaurant attire
Please just take the baseball hats off if you are dining inside at any restaurant. Thanks
Re: Restaurant attire
For the middle of the road restaurants you mentioned tshirts and shorts are just fine. If anything more upscale like ZoZo's, etc. the men probably need a shirt with a collar and probably no baseball hats but for all other restaurants a hat is just fine. I'm not going to style my hair on a STJ vacation and usually have on some sort of hat when we go to eat. I am by no means the only one!
Re: Restaurant attire
According to the rules of etiquette, it is never ok to wear a hat while eating. It shows disrespect.

Re: Restaurant attire
My Dad always said it was disrespectful to wear a hat inside. He used to always tell the kids to take off their baseball hats but they didn't want to remove them because their hair was messed up from wearing the hat LOL. I think on island people lean on hats because of bad hair days due to the humidity or time in the water.
Re: Restaurant attire
I learned the same hat wearing etiquette from my Grandfather who was never outside without his stylish and well worn fedora.

He once told us St Peter wouldn't recognize him if he showed up at the Gate without it.
