CAUTION: There appear to be some negatives

Post by vapored58 »

Just trying to pass on some observations from a first time st. john traveler.
Now that the trip is very imminent, it seems that the st. john traveler can experience disruptions in the normal sleep patterrns, causing diminished problem solving skills the last few days of work. These diminished problem solving skills seemed to be heightened by what i've come to identify as STR (selective thought reciprication). It's when you've got your mind on your trip and your trip on your mind. Question: Have you been spending an unusal amount of time on the virgin-islands-online website at work? It may be necessary in some cases to just take the last two days off from work. But be warned, this will help at the workplace no doubt, but will only worsen the sporadic sleep pattern. You may find yourself up making coffee at 3:30 instead of 6am the last two mornings. This is the time to relax and remain calm. all the planning is done. all the deposits have been paid. you thought all the clothes shopping was done, but you found out different about that, huh? they ought to have a "flip flop co-op" at the st. john dock where my wife can leave all the extra styles of flip flops she bought just for this trip!!
Well, what i'm trying to say i guess, is i'm glad this board was here, because this is where we come to pass the time and learn about st. john. that way we don't have to become the office "i'm going to st. john and you're not" bore at work.
thanks so much for all your help and i'll write the proverbial report when we get back. i just noticed it's 6:23 am and our flight leaves at 6:10 out of new orleans tommorrow morning. we leave for the airport at 4:30. some of you we'll see on st. john, to others, bye for now and thanks for the kindness you've shown here.

I think we all now what you mean! My "staging area" is set up and I am need to get going on some laundry. I like my little set up because I put things there as I think of it. I usually have to scale it down some  Then we have to get the house ready for the house sitter, pay bills and so on. I always have this mild anxiety about things I have to get done. Paradise soon come!
Going "home" again October 26th!

I lived everything you're saying!

I think the best part about a "first trip" to St. John is the peace of mind that comes when you get home, knowing where everything on the island is in relation to everything else, and what's available at the grocery stores once you get there. And knowing what you wore and what you didn't. And finally, knowing the next trip will be a piece of cake! I will not overplan the next time, now I "know the ropes." You're going to have a marvelous time! And your wife will not wear all those different flip-flops, I betcha!

vapored58 - you are gonna LOVE it - just remember to get on island time as soon as you step out of the plane! Don't let slow luggage or anything bother you. Just keep saying to yourself, "No worries, I am in the islands now", and it will all be good.

We like to do what you are doing and spend the first night on STT and just leisurely take the ferry over; although we usually end up on the first CA ferry cuz we can't wait to get to STJ.

Have a GREAT trip and enjoy EVERY minute! Take TONS of pics for us all stuck here.

p.s. I was on the Westbank yesterday for work. Man, has it gotten crowded and full of traffic over there post-K?!?!

we're already on island time and we haven't left the house yet. just relaxin on the paio w/ frends waiting for the sun to go down.we're going to be there for 12 wonderful days. i figured we'd stay longer the first year and do the weekly rentals after that. we plan on finding next year's villa before we leave. i have a few on my short list to scout out while we're on the island.
