I think I invented a new rum drink!

Post by GratefulDad »

Here is the recipe:

In your standard plastic red cup or similar

Fill with ice
Add 2 oz of your favorite mixing rum, I like Cruzan
Add 7-8 ozs of tonic water, I prefer Fever Tree
Add a splash of Orange Pinapple juice
Mix and enjoy

Refreshing, fruity almost punchy flavor

I call it the McHales Navy.

GD: This would be remarkable news, if confirmed. I recall friends visiting the VI back in the early 70's, and returning with breathless reports of encountering a new tropical rum drink, called the "Painkiller". Still, that was over forty years ago; it's about time a new rum drink was developed. Will you be publishing in a peer-reviewed mixology journal, and did you have the foresight to have your lab notebook notarized?

All the best,

Kevin,

Yes everything was measured in standardized measuring vessels and peer reviewed with rave reviews. I'm not much of a painkiller person, too sweet for me. The McHales Navy is more of a refreshing beverage. Sipping on one right now.

GD: "I'm not much of a painkiller person, too sweet for me".

I wouldn't have gotten that a year ago, but I do now. In fact, your new drink's tonic is too sweet for my tastes these days. Starting in January of this year, I finally realized that Bear was right all along, and dropped my carbs to 25 grams a day or less. When it comes to alcohol, beer has been replaced with either red wine or rum, sparkling water, and lime juice (with some erythritol if I want something closer to a traditional mixed drink). I am writing up my odyssey as a short pdf, "Adventures in Ketosis", and as of month five, my biomarkers were all awesome. Rib-eye's, eggs, and fried chicken with skin are now considered "health food", but these still leave room for low-carb veggies, nuts, and fruits.

PS: I really enjoyed both nights in Santa Clara, blanked as many were from Chicago.

All the best,

Kevin

First of all yes Santa Clara was epic. I was in the first row in the pit for both shows. Epic I say. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures here. I'm going to both shows at MSG too. On my way to STJ on the 8th. Life is good when there is a fall tour and STJ.

Now, be careful with that ketosis. Reallly messes with your kidneys for long term use. Fever Tree makes a low cal which I really like. Not totally carb free but low. The high end mixers have made some headway up here and I do think drinks taste much better. No high fructose corn syrup. All natural flavor and ingredients. Their line includes Ginger Beer, Ginger Ale, Club Soda, and a Mediterranean Tonic Water. You should just spike you wine with everclear.

What a vibe, huh? The rainbow was so cool. I really liked everything about those shows. The sound and video along with an amazing light show. It has been a long time since I was at a concert which everything was so well performed. I even loved the music they played in between the sets.

I look forward to creating some new rum drinks in about 79 days. Will try to remember to report back on my favorites! Everything seems to taste better when on STJ.

My favorite STJ-inspired concoction is quite simple...and quite delicious:

Cruzan guava rum, Sprite, and freshly squeezed lime.

It's the only mixed drink we've made at home (or at a villa) for several years now, aside from an occasional foray into making painkillers, but they never taste as good at home.
