Best place to celebrate an anniversary with dinner?

My husband and I are looking for a nice place to have dinner for our anniversary in STJ. I'm allergic to some/most seafood so we need to find a place that will have other options. Any suggestions? I've been reading around but I'd love some opinions.

Also, we're headed out in one month. Should we make reservations for dinner or can we do it once we get there?

We had my husband's birthday dinner at Zozo's and it was perfect. Our friend is allergic to all seafood and he had the Osso Bucco which he said was incredible (he is a trained chef)

Asolare is also another great choice.

I would call the week before and make a reservation. Let them know that you will be celebrating an anniversary and want to make sure that you get a great table to watch the sunset.

I second X's Zozo's recommendation. This restaurant is just fabulous. I don't eat seafood and my daughter is allergic to shellfish and Zozo's and we have had fabulous meals every time we have been. We often go for the Osso Bucco (it is SOOO good), but we've also had rib eye steak, a different veal dish, a pork chop dish -- all delicious!!

Go upstairs at 5:30 for some yummy cocktails and relax and watch the sunset. Then go downstairs and enjoy your fabulous dinner.

I highly recommend Stone Terrace...the food is fabulous and the outdoor dining is wonderful.
We had our wedding reception there two years ago and our 2nd anniversary dinner in April!

My top choice would be ZoZo's. Second choice would be either Asolare or Stone Terrace. All are good spots.

For food, La Tapa. For view Asolare and Zozos.

La Tapa has a great filet with port reduction and wonderful dusk. They also have non-seafood small plates that are a hit.

My favorite is still the Equator Restaurant at Caneel Bay. Unfortunately the food can be hit or miss (I personally have never had a bad meal there), but the view makes up for it!

HawkeyeChick, I have a severe food allergy to shellfish, so I understand your concerns. I developed my food allergy fairly recently and have only been to STJ once since becoming allergic to shellfish, but I found most of the restaurants to be extremely accomodating...that is except for the Equator restaurant at Caneel.

My allergy is severe enough that a microscopic spec of shellfish can send me into anaphylactic shock, so I always nicely tell the waiter/waitress that utensils that have touched shellfish cannot touch my food, etc...most of the time they're very understanding, but at Caneel our waiter laughed in my face like I was an idiot. He told me that since I hadn't ordered shellfish, I'd be fine.

The first time I had an allergic reaction to shellfish I'd eaten a piece of chicken that had somehow come in contact with shrimp cocktail that was also being served out of the same kitchen.

Our waiter was obviously uniformed, but he didn't have to be rude about it. I wrote Caneel a letter explaining the situation but never heard back from them. Needless to say, that was our first and last trip to the Equator.
