Trip Report Part 3: Soloman, Honeymoon, & Caneel
St. John 5/7/07-5/14/07
Part 3
We decided to hit Soloman, Honeymoon, & Caneel Bay on this day. This was our first time visiting Soloman & it was more adventerous than I thought it would be (we hiked from Caneel trail). Husband kept saying lets just go to Honeymoon, Soloman can't be better that that. Finally, made it to Soloman & spotted a perfect palm tree to set up our towels. As we approached the palm, I discovered an unusual creature laying under the palm to the left of us with his butt in the air. Whispered to my husband to look at this amazing discovery & we began to chuckle under our breath. So this really used to be a nude beach, I think some people missed the memo that it was illegal. Laid down on our towels and soaked up some sun & admired the beautiful surroundings, until the naked man arose from his palm and began to walk in the water (still nude) & up & down the beach. I watched others on the beach & everyone looked amazed & people were smirking. (pictures in slideshow show the nudeness, only b/c the man wouldn't sit down when I was taking pics--I never been to Soloman & I was getting pics if he was in them or not )
We decided to snorkel and really didn't see anything interesting. Came back on the beach & discovered that another man was also naked. So, no sea life on Soloman, just 2 naked men.
We then hiked back to Honeymoon & only stayed 5 minutes-it was unusually crowded. We made it to Caneel Bay, got a painkiller & pina coloda at the bar and found 2 beach chairs. We snorkeled and saw a lot of pretty coral & fish, & even saw a shark from the shore. It was probably in 2 ft. of water just swimming along (got a picture in slideshow).
We fell asleep at Caneel on the beach chairs & right before we packed up a Caneel staff member came up to us & said that he didn't care if we were there, but he was just informing us that the chairs are for resort guests only. They were unusually slow this day & maybe had 5 couples on the beach. Husband, said how can he tell we weren't guest & I said that he noticed by the towels. I told him before we left that we should bring our Caneel Bay towels, but he didn't want to listed--now he'll know better.
Went back to the Gatehouse & got dressed for dinner. We went to High Tide which is right off the Cruz Bay Dock. Dinner was really good, as well as the Bushwaker. I had the Caribbean Jerk Chicken & Jeff had some type of Seafood Bisque & Salad.

I have really been enjoying your trip reports and the pictures. Great view from your villa! That shot with the rain at Cinnamon was cool too.
I was looking at your pet pics. Glad to see someone else has a cat as fat as mine . We have three of them, but my male cat is huge. Sometimes his head looks too small for his body when he is laying sprawled out. Does the cat kick the dogs butt?

Going "home" again October 26th!

A shark... wow!!!
Great picture of the shark. As many times as i have been coming to St. John and looked for them, i have never seen a shark. I hope to see one for this upcoming trip (but not while i am snorkeling). Oh yeah, nice pictures of the beach and scenery also.
