For fish ID lovers

I know I am not the only one that loves to find different fish while snorkeling and then ID them. In my opinion the best guide is Paul Humann and Ned DeLoach's Reef Fish Identification book. I bring it with me every trip. One big downside is how much it weighs--almost four pounds. I had looked for it as an e-book in the past with no luck...until last night. Blio has it. It's searchable and looks just like the real book. I just freed up four pounds in my luggage (probably to be filled with more t-shirts by John )

Just an FYI for the other fish-obsessed out there.

I have the abbreviated version (not the 4 lb version). The pictures are really clear. I have shied away from getting the full edition because of the size knowing I would never lug it along. I may have to purchase the eBook tonight so we have it for our trip. Thanks for the heads up. Safe travels!

We have stopped dragging our Humann/DeLoach book with us for the past few years. Someone gave us a small water proof book for basic ids. Then we search through these two websites that we found:

I bring a notebook, write down the date & place and enter it in our log at the back of the Humann/DeLoach book when we get home.

The nice thing about the Snorkel STJ book is she has also included coral and creatures besides fish, which would account for at least 10 lb.s of books if you dragged them along too.

If you are a Facebook user, she posts occasionally on her Facebook page. Her latest post was on giant basket stars. Very interesting stuff.

Villas that focus on the guest experience (no point naming names) have been known to provide the full complement of Reef books (Fish, Creatures, and Coral) for their guests to peruse. Just sayin'
