Keksies Trip Final Part
Keksies Trip Final Part
Day 7:
Trunk Bay. I hadn't been the last time I was on St. John and I really wanted to go. Fantastic snorkeling. We spent the whole day and it was great. There weren't any ships in so it wasn't crowded at all. Dinner was excellent at RhumbLines. The mojitos were really good too.
Gallows Point

Day 8:
This is the day we are going to the Baths. It was fun, the food was great at Pussers, but we were disappointed in it on the whole. The time at the Baths seemed rushed as did the snorkeling stop at Great Camanoe. Next time we will look for a trip that puts less emphasis on drinking and more on the activities. We went to the Lime Inn again for dinner.
Day 9:
We spent the morning driving around taking pictures with our digital cameras. (We don't take them to the beach). We stopped at Caneel and did the Turtle Bay Trail, we stopped and took the short walk to the windmill on Peace Hill. When we got back we had lunch at Chilly Billy's and went shopping. That afternoon we went back to Hawksnest for a short snorkeling trip. This time I saw the ray that patrols the beach. He was right where the sand starts to drop off. I am surprised that no one has stepped on him yet. This night we had dinner at the Beach Bar.

Day 10:
This is our last day so we want to spend it snorkeling. We walked back to Honeymoon and this time I saw a huge !! tarpon. We also saw a huge group of tangs. We walked back to the condo and had lunch there. During our travels we were told that Maho had good snorkeling so we thought we would try it. We were not disappointed. We snorkeled along rocks and around the point toward Little Maho. We saw huge fish, beautiful large angels, a large sting ray, and the best of all two octopi. It was a great ending to a fantastic vacation. We had a very nice dinner at Paradiso. The return trip home the next day was uneventful.
Misc:
We had breakfast on the patio while we watched the lizards, iguanas and occasional chicken come by. We had a harbor view so we could watch the boats come and go also. I think next time we might get a different side because the noise from town kept us up a couple of nights. The noise from the construction didn't really seem and issue since we were not at the condo much during the day. We did have to wait occasionally to drive up or down the hill because of trucks. We had breakfast on the patio while we watched the lizards, iguanas and occasional chicken come by. After snorkeling the pool and hot tub were refreshing each day.
The weather was fantastic. It rained the first night we were there. It was cloudy and there were some quick showers during a couple of days.
The mosquitoes were only bad the day we did the Reef Bay Hike and at the yogurt stand. I didn't notice any noseeums.
We had water bottle holders and took water every time we went anywhere. We also took an extra bottle to wash the sand off our feet when we went to the beach. We also brought a small collapsible cooler that held sandwiches and snacks for lunches.
The Tap Room sure has good beer. I am not a beer drinker but I really loved the Virgin Island Pale Ale.
Parking signs should not be ignored. We saw many people getting tickets for parking on the road to Gallows. This seemed to happen in the evenings since the construction people parked there during the days without getting tickets. A group with us on the day sail had parked in a 30 min. parking spot and on our way to dinner we saw them trying to get the boot off their car.
When we were leaving the only ferry to Charlotte Amalie was very small and a lot of people were turned away. We were going to take the Red Hook ferry anyway so it didn't matter to us but I know some people were really upset.
My husband had a great time and we will be coming back.

Re: Gallows and Baths
Yes unit 10 is the second on the right. It is a very good location.
We took the boat Breakaway for the trip to the Baths. We just felt that we could have spent more time there and snorkeling.

The "10" building is the best bang for your buck for the Harbor View prices. I believe it is building 15 to the far right. Ocean view prices. I can't bring myself to pay $100 more a night for ocean view. The harbor noise doesn't bother us. The early morning ferry is like a giant snooze alarm.mary beth wrote:great picture of Gallows. We will be in building 10. I think that's the second from the right. Does anyone know?
Sorry to see your trip report end
Going "home" again October 26th!
