Lightweight backpack suggestions and help
Lightweight backpack suggestions and help
We are looking for backpacks for short day hikes. Room enough for a small lunch bag, water, sun lotion, keys, maybe a small towel, etc... Waterproof would also be nice.
Any recommendations?

Re: Lightweight backpack suggestions and help
Mine is getting a little worn out from hikes in the Adirondacks, and the beach trips on STJ. Was really surprised to come across some decent looking ones last night at Marshalls / TJ Max. They had ones with the Columbia label for $35. I bought one with a brand of Outdoor Products, for $25. -- Jeff

We get a lot of use out of the LL Bean Stowaway Pack. This one was updated recently, so it's a bit more expensive than the one we bought a few years back.

I think I actually bought ours based on a recommendation here.

I have one of these from Eddie Bauer - very lightweight and packs into one of the pockets so it's small and easy to travel with. Before I ever order online I search for coupon codes and can usually find one that works!

Thank you. Looked at an Outdoor Products one but it did not have padded straps. I think we will go with either LL Bean or Eddie Bauer.
Thanks again and I agree about the coupons!

Here's what we use on island.

It packs into it's own pocket, and weighs just 11 oz. We pack it for the beach with lunch, suntan lotion, towels. It's great. Watch the video, it's very helpful
