Finally on island!

Post by michigan girls »

It was a very challenging travel day for us, but we're finally settled in.

Michigan got a bunch of fresh snow this morning. Don't worry AA assured us, we should still depart on time, the de-icing will only take a few minutes... 45 minutes later we were finally taxiing for take off. Apparently some genius had decided they only needed one de-icing truck ready. After all, it's only Michigan... In April... (hint for those of you not in the frozen north - we almost always get snow in April) Then we faced headwinds... Then we had to fly around a bad storm...
Long story short, our plane was touching down just as our connecting flight was taking off. AA got us on the next flight though, so it was all good.
Our friend Mayra was delayed as well, so were supposed to land right about the same time, 3:30ish on STT.
Mayra's plane is late... and when she does get there, she tells us they forced her to check her bag so we must wait for baggage claim. At this point, it's 4:15 and I am very concerned about making the 5PM ferry, to pick up our jeeps before Sutton's closes at 6. I decide to play it safe and hire a private taxi for us, and we're off with the wonderful and charming Michael racing us to Red Hook. Traffic was the worst I've seen for a Tuesday, and we pulled in the lot right at 5. I left the girls to pay Michael and gather our luggage while I sprinted for the ticket window. I tell the lovely clerk, "please tell me I'm not to late to get on the 5 O'clock ferry" She says "Pay quick and get right over there". As we're entering the line, they are closing it. I run up to plead my case to find Leslie (ERL) also arguing with them about letting her on. It was ugly for a minute, but eventually they took pity on us and let us board. Big shout out to the guy in the red shirt who made it happen.
I asked at Conrad Sutton's when we arrived "What if we had had to wait till the 6PM ferry" She replied that she would have waited for us, no problem. I just love them. Some joking around with Conrad while getting our cars ready and we we're finally off. Stop by Starfish for provisions, then head towards Calabash Boom. We get to the driveway and I am unsure which fork we are supposed to take. No problem, I say, I have the printed out email with detailed instructions... But I don't, apparently it is sitting back home on my printer. We did eventually figure it out though, and after devouring our chicken and salads from Starfish are finally settling in for night.
Tomorrow - Maho and some turtles after watching the sunrise over the water.

Life is good

Being new to the forums, I keep forgetting I'm not on Facebook and that there isn't a "like" button

Enjoy your trip!

Well – you’re on-island, so there is only one thing to do – start “Limin”. Glad you made it.

Mg, were you wearing yellow shirts? I think you shared a cab with the couple we're traveling with! We had the EXACT same experience as you and probably were even at Conrad's at the same time. :D :D

We did not share a cab, I sprung for the private cab since we were so tight on time. We got to Conrad's about 5:45. (had to make a stop at St John Spice for our Kiss of the Jumbie coffee!)

Any luck on getting your group to Miss Lucy's tomorrow night?
