This may be the best $3 a STJ fan could ever spend -- the interview with Bob Garrison by Gerald Singer is well worth the read in any case.

A great interview with a very dedicated (and interesting) guy.

I met Bob several years ago when he was hiking up Sunapee Ski Area--I pulled up beside him and asked about the Bandit Guide. True to character, he reached into his pack and handed me one.

Ask him about his adventures flying sport airplanes.

Exit, you have always been a voice for conservation and preservation here, so I'm surprised to see you supporting a group of libertarians from away who think they should have the right to exploit and destroy National Park resources.

I am not sure that spending $3 to own a very informational map unavailable elsewhere is a vote of support for any 'group' here or away - and even think that using the map hardly constitutes exploiting or destroying the National Park resources for 'almost' anyone who enjoys hiking and wants some better understanding of the historical pathways of STJ. I have learned so much about STJ over the years from Gerald Singers site and sincerely felt that his publication of the interview deserved a wider readership.
While I do feel that the NPS could improve their efforts to make more of their vast landholdings held in the public trust available to the general populace - I certainly don't advocate machete hiking or desecration of historical sites within the Park or on private property and don't feel the ownership of this map encourages such behavior - individuals bent on exploitation and destruction will continue their efforts with or without this map but maybe having a few more dedicated history or nature advocates traveling these paths could be a deterrent to these malicious actions and encourage earlier reporting of their occurrences.
I have great respect for Hugo and his posts and information so I don't take the critical comment lightly and hope this explains my post to some extent.
