Very late trip report from July 2013!

Post by Effie »

Our party was my fiancée, myself, and my parents. All of us have been for the day multiple times on cruises but it was our first time for a full week. We flew to St Thomas from Hartford on Delta with a stop in Atl. Flight could not go fast enough as we were so excited to get to St John. We arrived at 130 and rented our jeep thru Amalie. They were there waiting for us when we got off the plane. My dad went with them to get the jeep and was already back before we got our luggage. We did pack a box with non perishables that we checked going down and stopped at Cost U Less. I wish we had gone to another grocery store for produce than waiting until we got to St John. I think we were just too excited to get on the ferry and get going. Cost U Less had really good wine prices too. My mother was excited to find her favorite for the sale price at home. I had told her from all my research that wine prices in St. John were very high and she would just have to drink rum all weekend instead! We missed the 3:00 car ferry by a few minutes but were second in line for 3:30 one. Our villa manager Mike met us at the dock and drove us to the villa.

We stayed at Villa Tamarindo which we loved. The villa was decorated beautifully and we enjoyed having the pool. The identical master suites were on either side of the living room and kitchen which was nice when traveling with another couple.

We went to Hawksnest, Maho, Trunk (on a non cruise ship day), Cinnamon, Francis and back to Hawksnest the morning of our departure day. We loved them all for different reasons. We wanted to get over to Salt Pond and Waterlemon but ran out of time. We snorkeled almost everyday and loved seeing the rays, turtles, sharks and other fish.

We ate at Lime Inn, Rhumb Lines twice, Ocean Grill, Barefoot Cowboy and Morgan's Mango. We also grilled at the villa one night and happy hour appetizer hopped for our first night. I would say Rhumb lines and Morgan's Mango were our favorites. We had amazing grilled Mahi at Rhumb Lines and also loved all of their appetizers and pupu platter. Morgan's Mango had my fiancee's favorite coconut shrimp that he couldn't stop talking about all week! Ocean grill was also very good and we enjoyed the BBQ at Barefoot. I would say the only meal we didn't like was Lime Inn. We made breakfast in the villa most days and also enjoyed quick breakfasts from Baked in the Sun. Almost all days we made lunch to bring to the beach except one trip to Skinny Legs. Baked in the Sun muffins and breakfast sandwiches were amazing. We loved trying the different bars around town. Woody's, Castaways and the Tap room were some of our favorites. We tried painkillers (one of our favorite drinks!) everywhere in St John and a few on Jost Van Dyke. Woody's was our absolute favorite!

We did a BVI trip one day with Stormy Petrel. Al and Rachel were really great and informative. Our tour only had 12 people total which made it a very personalized experience. We toured the Baths which were amazing. We couldn't go through the areas that you had to walk through water because of jellyfish but it was still great. Then, we went to Cooper Island for lunch and finished the day at Jost Van Dyke. It was a great trip and I would definitely recommend it.

This was also a very special trip for us because we got engaged during our trip and starting planning our wedding for this July! We have decided on Rhumb lines for our reception and can't wait to plan the rest!

I want to thank everyone for their amazing input and suggestions on here! I was so happy to have all the advice from here and Fins, Feet and Four Wheel drive to make it the most amazing trip!

Solid report. My wife and I are also big fans of Rhumb Lines. Probably the best compliment you can give a restaurant on STJ is going twice in one trip.

Congrats on the engagement/STJ wedding double.

No better place.
