Travel from STT to "SJU"/San Juan then to BOS/MHT

Post by SuefromMA »

Oops - typed STJ instead of SJU in my previous post. Re-do.

Still working on getting my adult daughter "home" at the end of her, most likely, stay with us this coming April.

She will be "heading home" most likely on a Thursday (4/24). Her final destination will be either Boston, MA or preferred Manchester, NH.

It appears that she may get better return airfare rates by grabbing Seaborne, Cape Air or Jet Blue from STT to SJU (San Juan) - then grabbing a fight from there to BOS or MHT. She will have luggage to check.

Has anyone had any experience with doing this type of travel?

Specifically,
a) How much time before departure would she need to arrive at STT airport?
b) How much time would she need to allow between the time that she lands in SJU and the time of departure from SJU?
c) Would she be needing to go thru customs in BOTH STT and SJU?

Would love to hear any pros or cons and also would welcome any advice.

Thanks,
Sue

We have traveled via Jet Blue several times through SJU. We are usually at the airport in STT 2 hours before the flight and have never had any problems except having to kill time waiting (seems we get through customs quickly). We have been on Jet Blue connecting flights with as little as 30 minutes layover in SJU and didn't have a problem (but this was Jet Blue to Jet Blue connections). You do not have to go through customs in SJU and the airport is relatively small so short layovers are doable. Good luck!

4/24 is very busy at STT because it's towards the end of school vacation in MA. and some NH school districts. That Thursday, Friday and weekend will be crowded in STT. Several of our trips recently showed STT to SJU to BOS. Only to find out when we boarded that the SJU leg was cancelled. We were happy not going into SJU but it screwed up our pickup in BOS an hour early. Your daughter should expect the customs line to be lined up outside and wrapped all the way down towards the taxi pickup area. Let her know about the porters service and look for Daphne. I leave STJ 4/25 and it's the same every year. Hope I've helped and not caused you anymore angst. The facts mam, just the facts.
