mack & papabou day 5 or 6
mack & papabou day 5 or 6
last day and eyes all teary. folks, for 2 guys in their 70th yr, vacations on stj take a lot of energy. we've both been very active yet have gained 10% of our base body weight. i feel like the goodyr blimp and only slightly lighter than ziggy whom we meet on his/her lease going down the hill earlier this week. today's abbrv report.\
1. pull out of battery hill at 8:25am and picked up our call in sandwich order at deli grotto (a 1st and will do again if wives allow us to come back).
2. drove all way to leinster bay for walk to waterlemon. met a nice chap walking 2 dogs along way. we stopped (blocked his exit lane) to ask about currents back toward wl cay. he gave us plenty of room and tried to keep going BUT i had to ask, are you by chance mr pia? he said he was but he must not be in good standing at pia household being relegated to dog walking and all. pia, you little winker, you got a big boy, nice too once he realized we were not dog nappers. he said said he'd tell you he bumped into mack and papabou on the trail but he was running pretty fast in opposite direction and may have forgotten.
3. long walk and twice as far back after an hr snorkel. currents very strong coming in (clockwise). water clear but marine life below normal. did see only 2 turtles of our trip and all in all a good snorkel.
3. emptied the cooler and back to casket grey jeep and on to maho. this would be our 1st 2 snorkel day. good snorkel under normal circumstance but after great day yesterday, a little bland. we had planned to come back to town via north shore but the cg jeep turned right out of new unpaved (as compared to roughtly paved mamey peak rd) parking lot and headed up hill to smoothie stand. we unwadded our last $20 for the hostess who really appeared to be happy to see us though we did cause a 5 jeep pileup as we shot across centerline rd into our reserved space under the columbo awning. she bid us an ado until next trip and i swear there was a tear in her eye. i assumed a sad one knowing full well it was one of joy seeing those tail light for the last time.
4. since only 8:45 (we were making good time or the watch stopped) we headed home via gifft hill to do ride bys of places than have special memories: cloud 9, temptress (now magic view), treasure ridge, the dumpster above the westin where we have buried so many soldiers and starfish market that seems to suck the life out of our wallets.
5. drove up to cruz views for a look see in case the guy trip budget for future stj trips gets reduced again. looked reasonable but NO way mack and i could walk to town from there. hell we had trouble slowing cg jeep to speed limit coming down hill.
6. rested up for a while before headed back to town for finalee. believe or not but they turned off power in cruz bay around 3 for mack and my naps.
7. last walk into town with immediate stop at joe's rum hut and a bunch of $3 ho pain killers and of course the evening meal of big g burger and fries. wait staff teared up as we bid them fairwell.
overall a great trip, we had a wonderful time, bored some folks out of their mind and some may never return to stj since our parting words always "till next time".

Thanks so much for all the reports, Papabou! Your self-deprecating humor had me giggling the whole time. The casket gray description of the jeep drew a snort every single time
Sounds like it wasn't the best trip, snorkeling wise, for you, but that's reason to go again, right??? Hope so!
I really need to put together a trip report for November's trip, and April's too!
Merry Christmas to you, Mack, and your wives!

Sorry I missed you guy's - he did tell me you met
Hopefully we can get together next time (I was being a lazy butt that morning) and I agree I do have a "nice boy"
I can't believe your trip is over already - safe travels and happy holidays to you all

I am sorry to see your trip end (probably not as much as you are). I have so enjoyed your reports. You are fun to read, I can only imagine how much fun it would be to be sitting at the Beach Bar with you guys. Glad you guys had a great trip and I hope your wives will join you next time and if they don't I hope they still give you their blessings and let you go play again. Enjoy the holidays!
