Mosquito Update

Post by kklay »

Hello All,

We'll be leaving for the islands this Friday and thought I would do a check on the MOSQUITO situation. I do have some spray, candles, off clip-ons packed, and I thought there had been some rainy weather a couple of weeks ago. What's the update? Will we miss the "bloom" or be there just in time for the hatching?

A few in our group seem to be a magnet for anything that bites, so I have a couple of the wrist/ankle stretchy coils you wear. This seemed to help them last year. Looking forward to a relaxing vacation. 8)

The skeeters are terrible right now. May be gone by Friday. Who knows.
Here are some hints for dealing with the critters. Don't wear black. It is true, skeeters love black and will swarm it like crazy. Forgo the harmful chemicals and cover up. The locals wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks.

Pia,

I know this has been asked and answered before, how long does the "BAD" usually last?

Thanks!

Hi to everyone,
I finaly arrived for the firth time in Paradise.! Since I hate those musquitos, I read somewhere that vitamin B helps against them. So I took since 3 month everyday a full vitamin B pill and now I am fine, the mosquitos do not bite me but all others. :D we were in St John at nighttime, it is beautiful there and tomorrow we will drive there afain to the beach. I am sure those Vitamin B pils are doing there Job.
Sunny greatings from Paradise.
Cecile. :D

Karen, there is no usual about how long the skeeters last. Last night I was down by the seaside and they were swarming. Today I'm up on Bordeaux Mt and have only seen one or two. Location is important. If you are in a brushy area, they will be worse. They are always worse on the lee side of a building, under a table, etc. Try to stay in a breezy area and wear protective clothing.
