Playing the waiting game trip #6!

Post by nancyr84 »

Usually I book our flight as soon as I book the Villa. I may wait a month or 2 but I always want a particular flight so I bite the bullet. This time (trip in June) with prices high I am planning on waiting. What's everyone's feelings on prices up or down? We are flying from Pittsburgh. No direct flights.

We booked our December trip in March ( a very special honeymoon trip with 3 generations). We booked because we were using frequent fliers. I have had YAPTA babysitting the flight since then and this week was the lowest it has gone $740/pp from Minneapolis to STT through ATL. When we booked the flights they were $796/pp and have gone well into the $800's but went to their lowest just this past week. We leave on December 14.

YAPTA is a great site. Also, try checking the BING travel predictor and see if it recommends to buy now or to wait.

Good luck!!

I buy flights when I see flight times I like at a price that I am comfortable with. I know that they may go down, but they may also go up and they also may sell out. You never really know.

It's a crap shoot :D

I agree with X - I usually book when I see a flight I like. If they flights go down, you may have an opportunity to get a credit.

It also depends on how many in your party and the time of June. Although, off season, I think later in June flights may book faster as more summer vacations start.

Keep an eye on flights that you like and see how quickly they fill.

We fly from Houston, which might as well be Idaho or Alaska for what they charge from here...but I digress. We have always visited in June. The latest I have purchased airfare is January. Except for one year, 2008, I don't think I've ever gotten a great deal. I do have a specific flight that we try to make, so that plays a small role. I will say that I have already purchased for next June. Coach was so high that I bought 1st class for only $200 more. It's our 20th anniversary so why not. I did this two years ago at the last minute where I upgraded for only $150 per person for the entire trip.
