Surprise surprise someone has a new ticker

Post by shoemak38 »

30 years ago next summer three high school friends got married over three consecutive weeks in the month of June in Vermont. 30 years later the three friends will drag their husbands along on a trip to one of the friend’s house on a nice little island called St. John.

What does that mean to this forum somebody has a new ticker and is going back to the island next year (without children) instead of Europe?

Rule of thumb... If you have a close friend who owns a house on STJ, be very nice to them, and keep them in your circle of friends! Enjoy your trip.

Lovemont my wife’s friend has had a standing invitation for us to come down but we hadn’t taken her up on the offer due to the children. They stay on island April until mid-May this gets them away from mud season. Our hosts husbands parents build their villa above chocolate hole back in the 80s if I remember the story correctly. The last time we were down five years ago they were on island the same time and we had a lot of fun. So now we have northern New England covered one couples from Vermont, one from New Hampshire and one from Maine. The other couple flying down with us discovered via Expedia that it was $191 a person to fly down on US airlines and fly back for $195 on American Airlines (we saved a hundred dollars a person booking this way).

It’s funny our intent was to go down next summer over the Fourth of July and stay in town for our 30th wedding anniversary with our 3 kids but when I started looking at airfares a couple months ago it was $1000 a person and I figured if I’m spending that kind of money we might as well go to Europe and so the planning began. Then our future host called her two friends and invited us down the last week of April for nine days. So our dilemma be selfish (due to vacation time) and go to St. John and skip taking the kids to Europe or take the kids to Europe and skip St. John. So I’m placating the kids with a one-week trip this summer somewhere tropical with Mexico being the top choice.

Sounds like you've come up with a great compromise. Time with the family and a trip with friends! Now you have two trips to look forward to. :D

Now that the holidays are over the 3 wives are starting to plan the 30 year wedding anniversary tour. Being my normal self I’m saying this group will behave like the couples in the movie four seasons (Alan Alda and Carol Burnett) while our host insists we will be more like the couples in the big chill. I’m really dating myself utilizing these old movie references!
Our host had purchased a used island taxi years ago and informed us no way we should rent car as it would be more fun to sit in the back to drive around the island. The decision has also been made to do a boat trip to BVI. So the only thing left is to figure out restaurants.

So it’s time for another infamous shoemak38 game:
where would you take a host out to dinner who is letting you stay at their Villa for nine days and why.

Referring that two of the husband's will be having their 40th high school reunions soon after we get back probably would be another clue I guess
