Gallows Point recommendations

Post by Vickie12 »

Planning our next trip to St. John and would love any reviews on Gallows Point? We usually rent a villa but decided to check out other options since it will be just my husband and I and we want to be closer to town. Would love to know others input that have stayed there and their condo recommendation. Any input and suggestions would be appreciated.

I have stayed at Gallows a bunch of times. It is a really nice location. My favorite are the ocean upper units, but we stayed in a harbour upper unit once and I found that I really liked that too--it was fun watching the boats and the activity in Cruz Bay from the deck. I have stayed in ocean upper units in buildings 2 and 3 and liked them both. I think the harbour unit we rented was in building 13.

I prefer the upper units because they are on two levels--the bedroom and a half bath are lofted up above the living/kitchen area. The lower units are all on one floor.

Thanks Liamsaunt for this information. Heard the harbor units were noisier and we would prefer a quieter unit with great view. Heard if you were not an early riser then the skylights in the lofts might be a problem...did you find that to be true?

Not for me but I have a skylight in my bedroom at home so I am used to sleeping with one. You could always bring a sleep mask if you are worried about it. If I remember correctly, the skylights had a sort of waffled filter/cover on them so that softened the sunlight a little bit.

Honestly I find that I tend to wake up early on St. John anyway!

I have not found Harborside to have any issues with noise. Is there some from the ferry, sure, but nothing that would prevent me from staying there. Harbor lowers have bedrooms in the back, away from the ferry traffic.

We have never stayed anywhere but Gallows. It's a great palce. The sky lights are a little aggravating if you like to sleep in. The sea gulls also like to hang out up there and peck on it at daylight. I think they're catching small bugs. In the scheme of things though, it has never been a big deal. This only applies if you stay in the upper units.---------
As far as the units are concerned, I would reccommend 1 thru 7. As you get into the higher numbers you get closer to the harbor and the Beach Bar. The bands that play there are a little (ok, a lot) loud at 2:00 am and can sometimes sound like they're in the room with you. Believe me this can be a lot more annoying than the sky light in the morning.----------You might also make sure you ask for an updated unit. Most all of them have been updated by now but a few still haven't been renovated. If you want to save a little money though, those units not updated are a little cheaper and are plenty nice.------The snorkeling is also pretty good right off the property so don't miss that if you snorkel.---------I can't think of much else. You'll enjoy the property, they keep the grounds very nice and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Oh, they do provide beach chairs for the guests that you can take off property by signing them out.------They'll also pick you up at the ferry dock if you give them a heads up on your arrival.
