Well I have a ticker, but I think for the BVI's...

Post by toni »

Finally couldn't take work stress anymore and jumped on the Delta flight deals. I think they were only $360/person/r/t out of Buffalo in December. Couldn't pass it up. We'd been debating and looking and trying to decide if we wanted to explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilizations elsewhere (thank you Capt Kirk!), but finally decided just to somewhat stick to what we know.

So tickets are booked, but that's it. I think we are going to head to Tortola or Virgin Gorda, having only been on a cruise stop for Tortola once and never to VG. Just trying something different is all.

We have 8 nights to mess with so maybe we'll split something up and still see St. John (I hope!).

But I would like to explore the BVI's too. Seems like whenever we are on STJ we think we'll take a day trip to another island but gravity sets in.

Any suggestions or thoughts on Tortola or Virgin Gorda? Trying to see if Tortola is like STT in which case it's too busy for us probably, we like laid back places, with good food access, beautiful views and quiet.

Happy I have a ticker!

Woot Woot, us too on the first trip staying in the BVI. We chose Jost Van Dyke for our first BVI stay. Happy Planning! 8)

Hi Toni! So glad you were able to get those great prices out of BUFF. I have visited both but stayed on neither. I personally would like to try VG for a stay. I love the landscape and how natural it is, not really built up. Either way I hope you have a blast!

Hey ski2play, what made you choose Jost?

We are just not sure what where we want to be yet.

Yeah Barb, wasn't it you who pointed out the fares? Thanks! :)

What made us choose Jost, let me list the reasons.....

1) There is a house for sale that we are interested in, that we are staying at.
2) Soggy Dollar Bar
3) The ability to unplug and enjoy.
4) The quiet but social aspect of Jost.
5) We are huge boaters in the 1000 Islands, NY and go between islands and countries all of the time. We want to see if the BVI/VI are similar in that respect, that you can hop in your boat, clear customs, and go to another island for dinner, etc.
6) In a few more years we will retire and we need to figure out where we will spend our winters. Huge planner here!

Combo trip coming up! Seeing the other end of the VI chain has long been a wish, and several members of this forum have posted glowing reports of repeated trips to the BVI along with fabulous photos. Returning to STJ to see all that we know there is the second wish... equally desired. Soooon Come!

Hi Toni,
I put my reply on the VIOL BVI forum, in case others are looking for info on the BVIs. We've bene to Tortola several times and VG once, so I made some suggestions.

Spent lots of time on Virgin Gorda, not much at all on Tortola. We have made ferry changes in Tortola (also stayed on Great Camanoe and Marina Cay), and there are probably parts of Tortola that we would like, but we love Virgin Gorda. Tortola does remind me of STT. Virgin Gorda does not. Very quiet (compared to STT, Tortola, and even STJ). Beautiful. Not sure what you want to know. Those airfares on Delta are incredible. Assume they are to STT?

Thanks everyone for their replies. We have decided to stay on both Virgin Gorda and Jost so as to experience both islands. I'll post more on the bvi forum. Ken, those fares were Buffalo to STT On Delta. I just looked at what they cost and they were $351/pp inclusive. It's a Tuesday to Wednesday trip. We paid about the same or maybe even a little less last year at this time on delta too. Can't pass up such a deal. I think Barb posted and gave me the idea. :)
