Salomon beach help!
Ok forumites!! we will be on island nxt wk, and have been to STJ many times but have yet to visit Salomon. What is the best way to get to Salomon? Some of our fave beaches are Salt Pond, Maho, and Francis, but would love to try something new this trip. Thanks for your help!!!

One route: Hike the Lind Point Trail

Another route: walk the trail from the opposite direction... from Honeymoon Bay and Caneel Resort
recent thread on visiting Honeymoon from Canal... http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/v ... =1&t=25829 Caneel Bay Resort is closed August 26 to November 1, 2013.
The third possibility is to come by water.

Aside from approaching from the water via a dinghy, I believe there's only one way to get to Solomon. The Lind Point Trail starts at the National Park Service HQ which is near the baseball field across the street from Mongoose Junction. Using the lower trail, it's a 20 minute hike and even though there are a few hills and some rocks to negotiate, it really is a nice walk. Here is a link to the trail:

You could also access the Lind Point Trail from Caneel Bay and get to Solomon from there (and go past Honeymoon Beach as well), but that would involve parking at CB. I think it's $20.
Have fun - you will love Solomon!!!!

Enjoy the walk to the beach!
I have always had excellent water clarity at this beach. The snorkeling is good around the point to the right and into Honeymoon.
Also, this past January when we were there, we watched spotted eagle rays jump completely out of the water. It was a stunning sight!

Wonderful! Thnx for all the info! We are def going to both Salomon and Honeymoon this trip, now that I have a better idea of the location! I'm very familiar w the national park headquarters just never ventured over to the trail. Sounds like we will be taking a cooler and snorkeling gear for this beach day. Thanks so much!!

Re: Salomon beach help!
We hauled a cooler and sandwiches as well from the National Park but our cooler was for 4 women who like a couple of beers at the beach. It was relatively heavy and we had to take turns with it as we walked. We also took beach chairs.
It's a great beach. Shade in early mornings and full sun all afternoon. Not really a lot of shade here for afternoons. Keep that in mind!

Re: Salomon beach help!
There is one other way to get to Salomon. You can park at the top of the hill at the biosphere parking lot and find the trail down to Salomon. Then you have the option of hiking back up the hill on the trail you arrived on or hiking to the Lind Point trailhead behind the NPS headquarters and taking a taxi back to your jeep. We managed to do the latter by accident. We stayed on the beach a little too late and with the setting sun we missed our turnoff on the trail back up the hill to the biosphere and ended up in front of Mongoose where I caught a taxi.

If Caneel is closed, reckon they will still charge us to park there if we want to hike to Salomon?lprof wrote:Caneel Bay Resort is closed August 26 to November 1, 2013.

I think I remember reading that they close the parking as well when the resort is closed but may make a (free?)small parking area available at the entrance during that time. Maybe someone can chime in who knows for sure.
