giant fearless parrotfish

Post by michigan girls »

Today at Leinster I drifted over a group of the largest parrotfish I have ever seen. And they had no fear of me at all. I was inches from them, and they just went about their beach building work. It was cool.

I also took a video of it. I can't figure out how to embed a flickr video, but here's the link:

This June we went to Grand Cayman with family members who had been there years ago. My first snorkeling experience at 7 mile beach was quite a shocker. I was actually followed by a school of Parrotfish. One actually nipped at me and broke the skin on my hand. I figured they were used to being fed. I told my husband the fish on St John were much nicer. By the way St John is much nicer too.

Love the video! Those are large!
Beautiful video.
I still am not sure I understand the Leinster Drift and where you enter the water.... but the corals and fish there look beautiful! :)
Thanks for the video!

Very fun - and in Grand Cayman both my husband and I were also bit by the fish while snorkeling. He laughed at me when I got bit, but then it wasn't so funny anymore when it became his turn! I much prefer the fish on St. John !
